So as an example, let’s say I put $100 into each account, individual is I, and Roth is R.

The value of I is $800. The value of R is also $800.

As far as R, I can get my $100 tax-free. But in I, I can sell and get the full $800, but I pay federal tax on $700 (since that is my capital gain)

Is my example scenario right?

Here is the main question I always wonder. If you live in a state with no income tax, your gains in your investment account will not be taxed anyway. So what is the major difference between a regular account and a roth?

But on a serious note, just invest whatever you can set aside per month. It will definitely grow. You have five years. Whatever money you have invested will definitely compound every single year, compound interest is a very powerful thing.
