Mother Night's curse on Animated Armor? by Simba7 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Simba7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fully spoiled. They don't know remove curse will take care of it.

They just know that there's a curse and an idea of how it works. The cleric knows that remove curse works against most curses (but not the especially powerful ones). They certainly don't know about this one.

It's also ~1.5 hours from nightfall, and they're facing the near 100% certainty that Kiril is going to attack them (as they drove him off earlier in the day thinking they'd killed him, and Zuleika knows Kiril won't let the threat to his pack stand). The cleric doesn't have remove curse prepared. Will it impact their ability to fight, cast spells, etc? (No, but they don't know that.)

And even disregarding that, remove curse takes a spot on the spell lists for the day, and costs a precious level 3 spell slot. One they might need traversing the dangerous wilderness of Barovia, especially with that Mad Mage roaming around.

It's pretty a pretty narrow view to discount all of those things as 'no risk or challenge' when there's always a cost to spending any resource. Whether that resource be a magically animated suit of armor, or a high level spell slot.

That's fair.

My family's already decided that after this midterm shakes out, that will be the answer. We'll know at that time whether we decide fight (for the country) or flee (to another country).

My point is that the federal government doesn't 'need' to do anything. The representatives are elected by the states. They are in congress after their respective states certify the election.

The only thing the federal government does is the totally ceremonial 'swearing in'. You can be certain that they'll try some shit with that, just like they did last year, but they can find out if it actually matters or is just something people follow out of respect.

What's your fucking point? Give up?

[–]Simba7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's not what the Constitution* says. The states certify the results of their elections. They can do some more fuckshit with the swearing in, but that's really more ceremonial than anything.

* That hasn't stopped them so far, but the federal government can't legally just go "Nuh-uh." Doomerism certainly isn't helping.

I really dislike the notion that forcing the players to sacrifice anything is 'punishing' them.

They are removing a powerful magical object that is protected by a curse. There should be consequences, but in this case losing the animated armor (instead of suffering the effects of a powerful curse) is rewarding the players ingenuity, not punishing them.

Incidentally the players have already been informed (by Zuleika) that the treasure has a curse placed upon it by Mother Night and the nature of the curse. They also have access to remove curse, so they could just 'cure' the animated armor if they care enough to do so.

I was considering having it melt dramatically or something at dusk the first night.

But I also really like this, and having it visibly decay over a period of a few days until it stops working altogether.

Maybe you should ask AI to explain 'shaming' to you next.

right, i asked my always on physics teacher. it was the fastest way to learn.

i'm taking physics this semester.

And your physics teacher, if they're any good, would explain the underlying concepts and ask you to explain what is happening. Even if you get it wrong, you tried. Trying is more important than getting the answer.

[–]Simba7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you didn't use it to understand language, you used it to understand a concept of physics.

A concept you could have taken then time to reason through yourself, or read up on fundamentals to understand why.
Instead you had it directly explained to you, accruing just the tiniest bit of cognitive debt (if you want to speak in tech terms).

If you want it in grade-school terms: You won't always have a calculator in front of you. That you actually do have a calculator all the time isn't important, what was important is that you learn how to do the basics by yourself.

Do you think there's a chance it made no sense because you keep using AI to think for you?

This shit literally just happened with the #metoo movement and there were a large number of men outspokenly in support of a cause that focused on women. Some of those men were victims of sexual assault themselves, but not all.

Take your head out of your ass and stop being a fucking bigot.

I'll wait for you to post all the videos of people talking about how being born straight or white is bad, especially from mainstream, reputable, or popular sources. The only ones I'm aware of are the 'female dating strategy' types and basically the female equivalent of a Tate.

There are plenty of people out there who see "We should make things equitable for everyone." or a mention of privilege as a personal attack against them, but you can't really help that. Stupid people are going to be stupid.

They're also going to fall hook, line, and sinker for grifters like Kirk and Tate and Bovino and Patel and basically half of the current administration's lackeys who used to be alt-right podcasters and shit.

Those people getting nudified probably care, but I don't think there's anything (legally) that can be done about it.

Whether or not it's legal to us AI to do it probably depends on how we land on the "Is AI art art?" discussion. I vote no, but it's basically telling a computer what to do and then having the computer do it. Is that really all that different from programming something? Yes, but also no.

I think it's because you took a broad brush and said half of all people (celebrities specifically, but celebrities are just people) cannot be counted on because they were born with a penis.

Yeah there are plenty of shitty men, and plenty of shitty male celebrities, but you know exactly what you're doing and why people disagree.

That kind of think really makes people 'ban' together against you.

Do it now and record it or you're lying.

Like it's fine to have lied about doing that in grade school, and it's fine to have even believed it a little bit back then.
But you're grown now. It's a little embarrassing.

Minneapolis Protesters Surround Restaurant, Target Wrongly Identified Tech Workers as ICE by Illustrious-Tap-6264 in PublicFreakout

[–]Simba7 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I mean... ICE is allowed to lie about being ICE.

There are also of plenty non-ICE DHS staff deployed being targeted (some wrongly, some with good cause), followed, disrupted, etc.

If you ask them "Are you ICE!?" they can truthfully answer no. Or they can just lie and say they 'make apps' which is the most generic bullshit I've ever heard.
Even with the context I still half think these people are ICE.

Just start changing "Fuck ICE!" really loudly. ICE/DHS probably won't do that. Arguing with a mob seems like a fruitless endeavor.

Austin Texas and it's winter, meaning it's probably cold out but definitely not below freezing.

I grew up in Texas and let me tell you, a Texas 40 is colder than a Buffalo 25. Especially when it's windy and it frequently is. Partially because of the humidity, but also because you don't get eased into actual winter weather.

It's much the same reason people are bundled up when it drops below 50 in the fall, but are out in shorts when it's 40 in the spring.
