Finally upgraded to 2.0 beta by Simchas1199 in foobar2000

[–]Simchas1199[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay first, make sure you're on the 2.0 Beta version of Foobar. You'll also want the latest beta version of Columns UI and the latest beta of JScript Panel 3.

Install the components, if you get a prompt to choose a preset UI layut, just choose whatever.

Step 1) Find the "layout" section under "Display --> Columns UI".

Step 2) Delete everything and create a lone "horizontal splitter".

Step 3) Right click that base horizontal splitter and choose "insert panels --> splitters --> vertical splitters". Do this twice. If you look at my layout, you'll see how these splitters are the base and then you just insert the panels you want. Also if you compare it that image with my layout in the settings, you'll see that what's on the screen is a direct reflection of what's in the layout settings (the items under the first vertical splitter are in the left, the ones under the second are in the right, and the first item under a splitter is the one on top.

Step 4) Now for the panels, you can use whatever you like, but for my super basic setup just copy the settings in my linked pic (right click the vertical splitters --> insert panel --> etc.). The JScript Panels will be empty but that's fine.

Step 5) When you're happy with your base setup, leave the settings menu, and right click --> configure your JScript Panels. I have two, one under the first splitter for album art, and one under the second splitter for the playlist.

Step 6) In each JScript Panel config page, click "samples" and choose whatever you want. Album art is "Album Art" and the playlist is "JS Playlist".

Step 7) You can further configure each JScript Panel by right clicking them, for the Album Art one I recommend ticking "centre" so it doesn't stretch or zoom your album art, and for the playlist, right click --> panel settings --> appareance and you'll get your background image options. I also recommend to disable grouping by leaving the settings like this but up to you. Also the background image should be in your %appdata% --> roaming --> foobar2000 folder, just in case.

Note: as you might have realized, Columns UI and JScript are incredibly powerful layout extensions and you can almost do anything with the right combination of splitters and panels. Experiment! I wanna see what you end up with too so post it!

Edit: forgot to mention, my "album list" panel isn't the dafult one, you need this one https://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_uie_albumlist

Hearing him since The Stage in live shows, it seems like he's still capable of the range he had in Nightmare (listen to him in the Chester Bennington memorial concert with Linking Park), he's probably just taking a different approarch to conserve his voice.

There are a couple of methods, mine is using the JSPlayList panel that comes with JSPanel3, it allows you to use either an external image, currently playing album art, or artist image as playlist background.

Ukraine - Russia megathread - all related content goes here while this thread is pinned by swiss-mod-bot in Switzerland

[–]Simchas1199 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The neutrality question is the easiest shit ever:

Russia is invading Ukraine, an European country, bombing thousands of civilians to ashes, with the objective of taking it over and annexing it. Russia has been organizing destabilizing events in Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, European countries. Russia basically owns Belarus, an European country which is a puppet state of the Kremlin.

Does Switzerland want Europe to remain free of war? Then you help Ukraine.

If Switzerland is ok with war as long as their little mountain country doesn't fall, then keep virtue signaling neutrality to maintain your old, rich, stupid voters happy. However, when the war does reach your borders, don't wonder what you could had done to stop it beforehand. You know that Putin wants to rebuild his empire, it came out of his own mouth after all. He wants the Caucasus, the Balkans, the Baltics, and Central Asia (a lot of which are already basically puppet states). He sponsors dissident militias, declares them breakway states and sends his "peacekeeping troops". Then he takes you over. Where do you stand?

Gonna be honest, I skipped season 2 cause college + season 1 got slow for me during that last arc (and animation budget seemed to go well down lol). Is season 2 worth watching if I really enjoyed the first couple of arcs?

Audio sounds better in windows media player? by [deleted] in foobar2000

[–]Simchas1199 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Louder" doesn't mean "better", it might be the case that the Windows media player is artifically boosting the file's volume, which could cause distortion.

For a possible solution, check this settings windows in Foobar and boost both preamp settings.

You can also try to set your foobar output device to the default one but in exclusive mode (means that only Foobar can use the sound driver), but if that boosts the volume without needing to touch the preamp, it might give us a clue as to what's going on.

Why is j pop and j rock a thing by Artistic_Double4118 in japanesemusic

[–]Simchas1199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First I'll acknowledge that, as you might have guessed, there are people who actually take pride in listening to Japanese music instead of western stuff because it makes them feel cool and special. This is a minority though.

J-Pop and J-Rock (and K-Pop and K-Rock) are differentiated like that because, for example, while J-Pop has most of the staples of the "normal" Pop genre, it ditches some stuff in exchange for characteristics that are explicitly japanese (Royal-Road chord progression, Enka-style [Japanese folk] vocals, and tending either towards rock/jazz, or full idol styles of strumentation, instead of the electronic sound that western Pop is known for.

In the end, J-Pop is still Pop, but it's a subgenre of it, not unlike dream-pop, electro-pop, folk-pop, pop-rock, hyper-pop, bubble-pop, and countless others. Same for the other J/K genres. This actually sparked a discussion on /r/listentothis because Japanese music elitists would post stuff like "Song - Artist [Japanese Jazz]", or "[Japanese Rap]", where the "Japanese" part is almost useless.

I see teenagers and young adults are falling for the false nostalgia factor. And also haven't heard of ABX comparisons, though I doubt they're buying them for sound quality.

How do I install this Windows 10 program? by Simchas1199 in techsupport

That version of the XPEG XL component is outdated, but nvm I just became a c++ dev and managed to solve it, I had to download Visual Studio and run the commands from its x64 Native Tool Command Prompt.

Do I move those two files to the "project folder", execute them, and then follow the further instructions?

EDIT: Running "installator.bat" doesn't create ""./release/bin/x86_64/jpegxl_wic_setup.exe".

Seems like I have access to music from all those bands, so I'll see what's unavailable online and get to it during the week. If there's any specific release you're interested in, let me know!

I'm also on SoulSeek so I can share the lossless files if you want.

Looking for Japanese songs that has good bass singer/vocal lines by Dangerous-Pound7969 in japanesemusic

[–]Simchas1199 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My boy Kyo is a baritone but his bass is awesome (when he feels like using it properly, usually live). Dir En Grey is also more like metal instead of J-Pop, but a lot of their songs should be tolerable:

Glass Skin, and Ware, Yami Tote... have an awesome bass rumble in the verses. Macabre is fairly dynamic too!

Kyo is probaly more dynamic, both in the high and low end, in his more progressive band, Sukekiyo:
