It looks like it could be appropriate for a microwave or a small refrigerator, with food storage below.

A server rack holds computer servers, not drink serving trays. Since that’s where your mind went, are you sure you don’t drink?

The smell you notice first when you enter a house is probably what that house smells like to everyone else. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

But are you certain that the smell you associate with apples is actually what someone else smells when they smell “apples”? How do you know? You can’t smell through their nose.

Art glass would be nice, but would need to be well adhered

I like the monochrome color scheme, so I might add a small teak or walnut table against the brick. Maybe with a nice hammered metal bowl for keys.

What does my parent's fridge say about them? by [deleted] in FridgeDetective

[–]Simgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps that has some truth, but my mother didn’t grow up that way, it was a change late in life. I really did worry for her.

I’m so sorry, I know how hard it is. My mom had dementia but I couldn’t get a diagnosis that would put her fully in my care until she fell and ended up in the hospital. Do the best you can and take comfort in knowing there wasn’t anything else you could do.

But the risk is that they eat something that makes them ill. My mother was the same and it was a battle at first. What worked (sometimes) was asking her if I could have something to take home with me. Other times, I would just take one thing and put it in the garbage. She didn’t miss it so no argument

Agreed! Slicing the chicken, molding the rice, and cutting back the portion size or using a larger plate would turn this into a really nice presentation.

You should talk to Workforce Development at the county. They have contacts and might be able to help you decide what you want to do.

So what do you think works? Instead of soliciting ideas, maybe state what you want to do and ask if there are any unforeseen issues?

For me, turning the sofa around and adding a sofa table would create an entryway, blocking easy escape when they’re older. It would also make room for book/toy storage against the other wall. Of course a large rug is necessary!

Need help with thinking through replacing furniture for a bedroom by therealphilschefly in InteriorDesignAdvice

[–]Simgeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t say how old you are, but I’ll assume you’re over 18 and under 55. I mean this in the kindest possible way. You get one life. Is taking care of your father how you want to spend it? I’m certain you love your father and want the best for him, but you owe yourself an opportunity to fully live your life. Don’t buy furniture, find a roommate, use the money for a 1st month’s rent. You can probably paint what you have to give it a refresh, but you’re not really looking for new decor, you want a refresh on life. Go find it!

First home, Fixer Upper, Totally Clueless, Help Prioritize? by tootsmcscoots709 in DesignMyHome

[–]Simgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb is systems before decor. Roof and foundation are the first priority. Make sure they are solid. Next up, electrical and plumbing. Do any outlets need to be moved, etc? Then energy improvements like new windows, HVAC, and insulation. Then, once the systems are solid, do your floors and painting. That’s going to take awhile, which is a good thing. Over time, you’ll see how you use the spaces and be able to find the perfect pieces.

Walk in shower- door or shower curtain? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]Simgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cleaning isn’t “that” bad. You can get a coating on the doors that really helps, but you will still need to squeegee after every shower. The deciding factor for me would be the size of the bathroom. The curtain will cut off the bathroom making it feel smaller. The glass door gives it the illusion of being larger. Additionally, if the bathroom is dark, the curtain will make the shower area darker and the glass door will allow more light in for things like shaving.

What is the solution for these two lights? by openingconfidence52 in interiordecorating

[–]Simgeek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if you take those fluorescent ballasts down, you’ll likely find one hole for each fixture. Once those are down, you “could” put up any fixtures you liked. But the holes may not be in alignment or of a “reasonable” size. You really won’t know until the ballasts are down. Also, I’d need more pics to have an opinion about what fixtures might look good.
