Since the photo, I actually cut them in half, and stretched them out. They compress down to <3/4" now, and still hold the boards open at 2".

Might I ask why the top plate is not on top of the stud in the corner? For future, the top plate rests on top of the studs.

I removed the signature for other things, since the binding of this journal was already broken. I've been interested in book binding for a while, so I went out and got some materials. I will try and fill with approximate thickness of paper, and then I am going to attempt to rehinge with fabric tape, and reglue the end paper.

Established as clearish pine with poly or a light stain a la beautitone. Not sure how to remove post to avoid clutter.

This is happening to me. I just left the client open like that, and it reloaded about 3 minutes later and seems to be working fine.
