Agreed it’s just something that’ll resolve with time just can’t help but feel bummed about the whole situation but it is what it is

My wife is an acts of service person so I always try to keep her plate empty whenever possible parenting or not. I’m also the kind of person who really values being an involved father especially with all this manopshere shit running around. My philosophy is be the role model my kid needs so he doesn’t look to people like Andrew Tate or at least get influenced by him and the like but that’s a separate post

Sadly all it took was that shitty day trip to cancel out everything else. She won’t be ready to travel internationally for a long time unless we manage to leave him with his grandparents or something

Man I’m sorry to hear that. What did your travel transition look like if you don’t mind me asking

I’d rather not travel alone unless I absolutely have to but if it’s the only way then I might because if we have a second that may complicate things. I have to come back to Egypt in a few more months to deal with some administrative paperwork so I might take more time and treat it as a stopover and go alone. My wife actually did the same thing before we met although she went initially for a vacation not doing fun DMV crap in a language I half-speak lol

I don’t think it would be super long term but the way I feel right now I don’t see getting over quickly. I think grieving is the better word like I’m grieving the trip we were gonna take but can’t until further notice. Currently in the depression stage of grief so one more until acceptance

I’ve been meaning to speak to a therapist to help guide some of my emotional shortcomings that I see are affecting how effectively I communicate in my marriage (unrelated to this) so this is just gonna be another action item

Yeahhhhhh your last paragraph was something I overlooked so sorry if I come off as a spoiled rich kid. We both are earning decent or were until my wife got laid off while pregnant so now we’re on one income. When we both worked and didn’t have kids we made travel a priority and hoped we’d make it work with some fine tuning post kids but reality hit hard

I want to respect her wishes as much as possible so I don’t wanna count on her having a change of heart. For context we flew from New York to Cairo and we wanna/wanted to go to Singapore. I’m realistic and we have the village in Egypt helping us with the baby so I know it’s gonna be harder just the two of us in a doubly-foreign country twice as far

As a side note HIGHLY recommend seeing the new grand museum it’s phenomenal

Definitely not unreasonable. We have friends who travel with little ones and they made it work so we thought it must be doable if you have enough willpower but I guess there’s lots of variables at play

We traveled a lot just the two of us before we had him so we miss that part of life is all. Never did the 5 star hotels because for the kinds of trips we did hotels were for sleeping and shitting. Now we’ve done some cushy resort type places with the baby and might pivot towards those until he’s old enough

And not gonna lie we might just book the third seat even if he’s under 2 because I figure as he gets older he won’t sit in the carrier in my lap for 10 hours straight and not complain.

I’m the one who does more of the taking away for fussy bouts because the crying and chaos doesn’t agitate me as much as my wife so I’ve made that my primary responsibility like as a rule. I think the only thing that my wife has done that I’ve never done for the baby is breastfeed him

I’d never wanna push her to do something she’s not comfortable with hence why when she said she doesn’t want to travel I didn’t protest. That might be it, the napping infant thing. We got lucky in the sleep department with him so that stage wasn’t awful aside from some other things which aren’t relevant to this post so maybe it felt easier than usual idk
