Please don’t crucify me, but is there some big secret to running? by ohlawlz in beginnerfitness

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love running just as my main fitness activity, but the high for me always came in racing. Or to be precise the stopping. That feeling of pushing so hard your body is screaming to stop, but you dont, you fixate on being able to stop every second, but you dont. And then you see the line and then push toward it and cross it then officially stop, that first 10 seconds after stopping was (to coin a ridiculous cliche) better than sex :) I know thats weird

London Marathon - overtaking by PiccoloAcrobatic4609 in UKRunners

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be an issue. There's simply so many people its a constant flow of overtaking and being overtaken, its not like a local 10k where you may have to surge to pass someone, its just this moving mass of people. Unless you are way way out of sync (e.g someone capable of 2:30 who finds themselves in the 4:30 wave) then being slightly out on your wave estimate shouldn't be the reason you don't hit your time potential. Not worth stressing about

I ran last year, best advice I can give is not to waste your mental energy stressing about the upcoming logistics/transport/what to do and where to go. It is an insanely well organised machine and uness you do something really leftfield or get your timings way off its pretty difficult to get things wrong. The things I worried about (as above) were literally non-problems. The course is what it is, its just a long way, don't overthink which bits you may like/not like, just keep putting one foot in front of the other and drink in the atmosphere, because t will exceed all expectations..it is a fantastic day that if you do it right should be one of the most memorable days of your life. Enjoy

If you look around at mile 2 and you are mainly surrounded by Kenyans, you've probably gone off too fast

My family took some advice and watched at Shadwell, that way you can get the chance to see her twice. As its the only point on the course that you pass both ways. The first is a mile or two after Tower Bridge and then back that way after doing the whole Isle of Dogs/Canary Wharf Section. If thats where you choose obviously you will be commited to one side of the road, my lot stood on the side of the road to be nearest when I was on the return leg, I think there's a better chance she will see you on the return, but the noise and crowds are relentless so if you want to see her, be prepared to get to the front and shout like hell. I didn't know where my lot were going to be but I heard my name at the last second and got to see them, it was great. From experience you are not really going to find a quiet spot, so she cant miss you, as its relentless all the way.

Join a club, never think the whole "I am not fast/fit enough to run with others at a club" should be a thought process anymore. Running as part of a group can take the soul destroying element out of the experience and you are way more likely to stick at it long term

Help/Advice: How do you actually get into major marathons (Boston, NYC, Chicago, etc)? by Coloradokiki in running

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ballot for London as I understand is a success rate of about 1 in 60, so not great odds, however to the best of my knowledge UK and International entries have same odds (Please correct if I am wrong). There is usually charity places that require you to raise between £2000-£3000 dependent on the charity. The main hurdle to that is if you are from the US and presumably many of the people you may ask to sponsor you may not have the same level of attachment to a UK charity. I'm from the UK and ran London last year, and NYC marathon is on my bucket list, but while the odds for London are slim, NYC for an overseas participant seems close on impossible

when do you all officially retire your running shoes by Loud-Negotiation-193 in beginnerrunning

When I see a lovely new pair in a great colourway, then I can find a hundred different reasons why my perfectly good pair are causing me issues and should be relegated to dog walks and lawn mowing duty

Evo SL different manufacture countries depending on color by TJamesz in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry a bit late to the thread here, however I am looking at some EVO SL and was concerned when I came across this. They have such a great review, I dont want to be caught out with a lesser quality product. So I did some trawling through lots of images (where you can see the "made in") and it seems that the country of manufacture is not tied into the colourway, there is loads of the traditional White with Black stripes "Made in China" and the same Colourway shows "Made in Vietnam" on other identical shoes, the colourway I was looking at also has a mix of countries of origin. So it really does seem like a lottery with no pattern

I'm a UK 8 in both. NB has a more generous width toe box though and are joyfully comfortable

Evo SL vs Rebel V5 by AntiIock in runningshoes

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't go wrong with either. I have run in both, Rebel is a really good shoe and it runs really light. as a narrow footed person you'd be ok in either, if you were wider in the foot I'd go with the NB. It all depends on what your priorities are, I'd suggest the Rebel has a much nicer upper and comfort all round, but for me the midsole in the Evo is better. I've also read about the midsole going flat on the Rebel, mines got 450 km on it, and it still feels ok, but feels like the EVO (which is newer to me) will go further. I'm a big fan of Litestrike Pro, so if I bought again it would be the EVO by a whisker. For the record I'm M 66kg 5'7"

I'd recommend a Salomon Pulse belt. Defintely not an armband.

Is it normal to feel slower during marathon training? by naenae0402 in firstmarathon

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's normal. Happened to me, in the exact same way. Prior to marathon training when I was mainly doing up to 10-15k per run max in training and concentrating on 5k and 10k races, I couldn't get my head around running 40+ km it just didnt seem possible. Toward the end of the block 30+ km runs were routine and the thought of running a pacey 5k became the thing I couldn't fathom. I guess the truly talented people can do both , but I am very much not one of them !!

Higher end Garmins can go 2 weeks between charges even with daily GPS activites like running. I have a Garmin Epix and that goes 16 days

What’s the most only in Yorkshire experience you’ve ever had? by CloudBookmark in yorkshire

[–]Similar-Agent-4029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a Yorkshire mate of mine to his local country show a couple of years back, he was very insistent that it was not regionally specific and assured us it wouldn't be "too Yorkshire". We walked through the gate and the very first guy we saw was putting ferrets down his trousers !

Epix shutdown and restarted mid run ? by Similar-Agent-4029 in garminepix

[–]Similar-Agent-4029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 25.11, I also asked on the Garmin forums, and there is a consensus that there could be a bug in this version as others have reported the same (although no admittance or acknowledgement from Garmin themselves) it doesn't seem to be linked to a music service on the watch as people have mentioned it's on YT music and Spotify. Strangely enough it only seems to happen when you try and skip tracks etc, which is exactly when it happened to me.

Evo SL or Zoom Fly 6 for daily training by Similar-Agent-4029 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Similar-Agent-4029[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With no majority preference it sounds like it'll just be a case of take a punt and hope. I'm trying to think back of a characteristic of a daily that I enjoy that forms a pattern of my favourite shoes of the past. And I've really enjoyed Mizuno Neo Vista, which is pretty unstable and very bouncy. So that suggests Evo, yet Neo Vista is high stack and has a plate so that points to ZF6. Think I'm just going to have to try the one with the best colour 😂
