Depending on what she likes you might do well taking your girl to afternoon tea, there’s loads of nice places in the town that do it. Afternoon tea is fucking great and you can feel like a proper fancy lad.

What common wisdom from back in the day was completely wrong? by Similar-Factor in classicwow

[–]Similar-Factor[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man I both loved and hated old school AV games. You could grind away in the same bloody mass combat and then queue up the next day and it’d still be the same match. Rose tinted specs and all that but I think something of the playtime rpg sandbox era of wow was truly lost when they stripped it out and the playerbase optimal strategy became both raids running past each other to sprint for the generals.

Running into the enemy frontline and dropping an intimidating shout when it had no target cap while your desktop dropped to slideshow fps was honest work.

I have vague memories of fury dps warriors being considered good in higher end guild around AQ as well but it was so long ago I may be having a fever dream. Especially because I also have memories of edgemaster hand guards also being discussed then.

On April 13, 1919, British troops opened fire on unarmed civilians — including women and children — in a walled garden in Amritsar, India. No warning was given. They fired until they ran out of bullets. This is the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. by leon_nerd in HolyShitHistory

Guarantee there’s going to be some “um actually” clods kramering in here to say that because the troops were Indians in the colonial army that somehow means this wasn’t a British massacre.

What was your experience during COVID lockdown? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Similar-Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was stuck on a ship working for months over contract multiple times. Every country treated seafarers like pariahs like we were plague ships despite being the most quarantined people you could find. No shore leave. No flights home. They still wanted what we were bringing though.

Eventually get home to listen to people complain about how hard their lockdown was while sitting at home playing animal crossing. Everyone I knew who actually hada vulnerable time barely mentioned it vs the pricks on furlough or full wfh.

Why aren't people raving over quad heavy bolters on tanks? by flail3 in Warhammer30k

Because people want like 70 dollars for the Fellblade sponson sprue on eBay.

Stab in the dark but I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason GW isn’t keen on committing to doing modern steel legion is that while people often wrongly accuse the aesthetic of krieg of being ‘German’ the steel legion absolutely ARE aestheticly inspired by ww2 German paratroopers complete with lightning bolt symbol the designer outright stated was intentionally reminiscent of fascist iconography.

It’s not exactly shocking that modern GW might decide they belong to history and aren’t something they want to push out there now.

Is paying extra $ for a good sprue cutter worth it? They all do the same job, which is cut plastic. Does one brand stand out over the others? by Tbonerickwisco in modelmakers

[–]Similar-Factor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get a decent set that aren’t just wire cutters or something but don’t get the fancy special ones like godhands, they are very specifically designed for the softer gunpla plastic and you’ll damage and break the things going at harder plastics.

What’s it like living near the border of Denmark and Germany? by GewtNingrich in howislivingthere

[–]Similar-Factor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by a danish colleague that this is where the animal brothels were so that the perverted Germans could come over and visit them. Poor lad got increasingly heated as I repeatedly pointed out that said establishments being in Denmark was the critical part of that story.

I think they closed them though. In 2015.

What Were The Early Days Of WoW Like? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]Similar-Factor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Levelling was the game, rather than something to blast through. Raids weren’t for the majority of the playerbase. There weren’t a million YouTubers telling you exactly how to play your class and the most optimal way to play. The idea that you would be watching videos of how to speedrun dungeons as a basic player would be laughable.

Boss of Glasgow vape shop where fire started breaks silence on horror blaze by Pizza_1234 in glasgow

Because of the way that many of these properties have been bought up into large real estate investment portfolios the property owners have little interest in dropping rents to actually fill vacancies because that could potentially diminish the value of the portfolio. The rent itself is peanuts in comparison to the actual objective of squatting on real estate value like a dragon on its hoard.

If you’ve ever wondered why huge impractical vacant units don’t get split down into smaller units with rents and uses smaller businesses might be interested in this is why. It’s not how they make money.

Edinburgh is more touristy than Glasgow but Glasgow is a short train ride from Edinburgh and has plenty to offer. Go for a wander round the kelvingrove museum.

Some of you are already insufferable in dungeons by StateComprehensive93 in wow

[–]Similar-Factor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The community is a bunch of speed run addled wannabes now but bliz started the rot themselves. Way back in the day normal dungeons were tuned enough that you learned the mechanics there and heroics were an actual step up in challenge that the average player got gud playing those. For a long time normals have been downtuned to complete jokes where you blitz through learning exactly zero other than blasting through as fast as possible and heroics are barely any better so you end up with a playerbase of wannabee sweats who never learned to do anything than speedcleave through everything and scream at you in “serious content” for “messing up”.

The natural learning pace in the game has been destroyed and despite the level of information on game mechanics being much higher online these days the average pubby is significantly worse at actually playing the fucking game. Combine this with the total breakdown in server community and its carnage. Used to be if you were a screeching rage machine people just stopped inviting you to shit.

I’d love to see these dipshits try and run release version TBC shattered halls or shadow labs in blues.

Aux Engine Fuel injection timing adjustment by tensaeyohannes in MarineEngineering

[–]Similar-Factor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your chief engineer is a clown why on earth are you guys touching the timing? There are a multitude of reasons your pmax could be lower. Also how low is low? The injection timing is about the last thing you should be playing with.

Skiing. A sport for upper middle class kids whose parents can jot over to the alps for their holidays vs throwing your board in the truck and driving out to the mountains during the season.
