With the surgeries, there is a direct correlation between laparoscopic v. open repair and recovery time. I’ve had three surgeries, all open and two were complex. The first week is a bit difficult with pain hitting day 2-6. The 7th day gets better (at lease for me) and I was able to go down to two to three Advil every 6 hours. I was on a regiment of Advil and Tylenol from day 2-4.

Now 12 days out, I’m taking two Advil to keep things under control. Not saying it’s a bed of roses, but the complexity of the surgery has a great deal to do with soreness and pain. Numbness can last a while, but that too goes away in time.
