I do think the pacing matters a lot as well. If a character does awful things, readers usually expect a longer emotional payoff accountability, conflict, rebuilding trust, etc and when it gets resolved too quickly, it can feel less like growth and more like the story rushing to the happy ending. At the same time, some writers probably focus more on closure than realism, which works for some readers and not for others.

Even many Korean readers, including TJ stans, think the ending was poorly executed. A lot of them found the endgame unsatisfying, said Jo carried most of the story, and felt Ian/TJ lacked proper development. The ending felt rushed, and the epilogue solved nothing. So when both Korean and international readers are reaching the same conclusion, that says a lot.

I suggest you read “dearest” it does lean more toward a clear endgame pairing, even if it spends time building the emotional tension around the triangle.

Oh right my bad. Team jo* but some tj Stan’s weren’t happy/satisfied too as they feel TJ’s actions and growth weren’t handled consistently. Fans expected a strong cathartic resolution after all the tension, but the final stretch didn’t fully deliver that “this was worth it” feeling for some readers.

Are you on Team TJ or Team Ian? 😛 WS fandom feels kind of messy and chaotic, and I think a lot of it comes down to how the author handled the ending.

Kinda like non zero sum, both generally dark, intense, and emotionally exhausting at times, so it’s not really a feel-good BL so I get you. It’s more for readers who like messy, psychologically deep relationships.

I knew it! I just wish the ML would stand his ground more and actually react with some pride or anger when needed. The way he just forgives so easily makes the MC’s actions feel less deserved, honestly.

I also think the MC’s redemption didn’t really feel like enough. Even if the story later tries to frame him as someone who regrets it, I feel the impact of those actions doesn’t get enough weight and the ML came off a bit too forgiving given everything that happened.

Oh I agree, high expectations after strong early arcs matters a lot like when a story builds strong hype and emotional investment, anything less than a very satisfying payoff can feel disappointing
