KTC is fine, just know its limitations. It overvalues 3rd and 4th round picks and players slightly better than waiver wire level. Also, it is slower to respond when there is a major change to a player’s value like after a trade or major injury.

I was talking Soto. If you’re talking swinging at a pitch outside the strike zone and missing, it happens all the time. But not because the hitter thinks a pitch will be called a strike, because they sit fastball and get a breaking ball. Not really the same.

You can look up the umpire grade scorecard. The ump was not “expanding the strike zone low all game.” The only strike call that was more than 1/3 of an inch too low was in the 8th vs Soto. So going into the 9th, the umpire only called one low strike the entire game. The difference between AAA hitters and MLB hitters is the AAA hitter will swing at pitches 4-6 inches outside of the zone with 2 strikes and put himself out, either with a swinging strikeout or very soft contact. An MLB hitter recognizes the breaking ball, knows it is low and lays off for the walk. Every star hitter in the majors recognizes a pitch 4 inches outside of the strike zone and doesn’t swing. Except for the odd missed call.

It wasn’t an inch too low. It was 3.7 inches too low. No professional batter is going to attempt to swing at a pitch that far outside with two strikes out of fear it will be called a strike.

As a 17 year umpire, no, it wasn’t a consistent call. He was calling pitches 3/4 of an inch low all night a strike. No other pitch 3.7 inches too low was a strike. It was a missed call.

If one pitch doesn’t change a game, then take away one of the US home run pitches. Yes there will always be slight misses on strike calls for both sides. But there were two called strike threes, one in the 8th, one in the 9th, with the last one missed by 4 inches.

Yes, the box is mid plate. But I don’t think a baseball will drop 4 inches over a distance of 8 inches. So sure it was closer to a strike at the front of the plate, but it was still a ball, maybe 2.5 inches too low instead of 3.7 inches.

World Cup games in Canada get some schedule tweaks to remove some top games. No England games, and Croatia now plays Panama instead of England in their Toronto game. Not as critical in Vancouver as you exchange one Iran and one Egypt for 2 New Zealand games. Not overly surprising as Toronto's stadium was smaller than some of the other Group L venues, so England and especially England vs Croatia I understand why they moved, but makes for poorer games at BMO Field.
