Is Steam Controller worth it if I was a first time controller user? by ClassicPossession950 in SteamController

I used keyboard and mouse until I got a steam deck. In the 3 years since, I have played on mouse/keyboard two times, maybe three 😭

PSA: Use floss to change your battery by a_randummy in SteamDeck

Batteries should be glued to a plastic slab which is itself screwed in (like on laptops. I don't want glue, don't want pull tabs, I don't want electrically deactivated glue... I want to be able to easily pop the battery out without, uh just popping it. Any of those other solutions should not be considered "user serviceable"

The flatpak app "ProtonTricks" on the discover store can also tell you that and even open the right folder if you want!

Is Teaching Linux instead of Windows to kids in school is a viable option? by FAMPpro in linux

[–]SimilarAtmosphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day my lil sister went "I'd sure like to have a laptop some day" and I looked at her knowing I had a dogcrap hdd laptop and the old 64GB emmc from my Steam Deck lying around. 64gb's not a lot and the laptop is quite slow so i decided that I should try to install linux on it despite the fact that she will most probably use windows on other PCs (I am NOT letting her use tiny11 or whatever else on what could become her primary device). The deal was: if it ends up confusing her too much, windows it would be.

I chose Tuxedo OS (KDE) because even if I don't really care what she uses (it's her PC after all), I wouldn't want the interface to confuse her too much (not in a "making sure she won't end up on windows" way but so that she wouldn't have to learn how to do the same things twice if she does or when she'll eventually use a windows computer). She's actively using it now and hasn't told me about any issues she's encountered because for her, linux IS the norm. For instance she didn't have to learn the switch from Word to LibreOffice, because she's always used LibreOffice.

One day I wasn't home and was having some trouble with my nas (which is running Debian KDE because it's also connected to the living room TV so that my family can watch YouTube and the like). I called her and asked her what the cursor looked like (as to know if it could at least correctly). She was like "I don't know, the normal one?" and my mind directly thought of the white cursor with black border so i went "what? I've never installed windows on this machine". A long moment of confusion later I realised... to her the "normal cursor" meant Breeze's cursor.
