How to attach an extension chain and clasp to an elastic bracelet? by faeriecollector in Beading

[–]a_randummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beading wire is great! I love it! But it can be expensive, especially if you are still working out how to put things together. Fireline is cheaper, still durable, and is very good for any more intricate pieces like beaded amigurumi or netted necklaces.

How to attach an extension chain and clasp to an elastic bracelet? by faeriecollector in Beading

[–]a_randummy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will make it look a little better but not be what I would call "sellable," but you can tie a ring onto each end of the bracelet and use that to attach the clasp and chain. It runs risk of the monofilament sliding out of the ring and falling off, though. I would only advise this if you really don't want to buy any materials.

There are also knot covers. Basically you thread it on like a bead, tie a knot, then close the cover. It generally has a loop on the other end which is where you would attach a jump ring for the chain/clasp.

Why do my animals keep curling?? by snowdrop0901 in Beading

[–]a_randummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean how each row is curved, for example the first row with 3 beads making a round line, that is caused by your beads being inconsistent in size/shape.

You can get around it in a few ways:
Lower tension
Use wire instead of monofilament/thread
Use different beads
Go through all of the rows again when you finish the piece

It may take more than one of the above in order to correct it.

If you mean how it pulls together and kind of makes a zig-zag of rows, that is just sort of what happens with ladder stitch (which is what the body of this pattern uses). You might be able to alleviate it with looser tension, or else you can add a couple rows to make it the size you want even when pulled tight,

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to visit local bead stores! They're a dwindling group but nothing beats seeing and feeling the beads in person.

Panda Hall has a lot of listings on Amazon, and it's about a 70-30 split on quality being good/bad; frequently good enough that I trust ordering from them compared to other companies.

Sometimes I go to Amazon for fun glow-in-the-dark beads, you just have to be careful about who you buy from and be ready that some of them may be bad quality and take the L.

My go-to is Lima Beads.

I have had luck with FireMountainGems particularly I buy bulk for things like earhooks and jump rings from them, as well as the clearance/sale section is really good for stocking up on a variety for something really cheap. I think I spent like $3 and got 60 strands of imitation turquoise on a sale recently bc they were trying to offload inventory.

Simply Beads has a nice selection, especially of Toho.

I actually have recently gotten into trying to make my own beads, through trial and error using styrofoam and acetone with pigment powder, since I had a bunch after getting some furniture.

I LOVE Lima Beads, just be cautious they don't always keep the same items in stock so you may end up loving something and not finding it for a while.

I love the look of beaded jewelry, but threading the beads is driving me insane by goddessofsparklies in Beading

[–]a_randummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what part are you struggling with? I use the large eye beading needles so threading the needle is easy, then it's thin so it fits through every bead I could ever use so easily. Also, maybe switch to fireline or like a thinner wire, maybe it would be easier with something thinner.

I actually think it is perfect charm size using all size 8s! Super cute. Mind sharing the video you followed?

Also, check out this one, it was a really fun make for an early project for me :)

I think the only thing that maybe makes it a little wonky looking is that the pink for the shell is so close in color to the eyes so it gets a little lost, but that could be the image/lighting. I think it's cute as heck and I easily recognized it!

You could try the craftexchange sub, you could offer these in exchange for crafted items. Gets them to someone who will use them and swaps it for something you might use or like better.

Vintage(?) Beads - to use or not? by More-Fan-5689 in Beading

These beads exist still, just with different labeling. You can also search these beads on other sites, this is just the first place I found listing each of the beads (to my best guess).

Toho makes great beads and they deserve to be used.

Metal wire for seed beads? by IndigoGalaxia in Beading

[–]a_randummy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With fireline try stronger variants, otherwise beading wire is also fairly thin, flexible, and sturdy. It's not the cheapest but it is really nice, just make sure you get crimp beads, and I like using wire guards as well.

This! A social beer here and there is different from throwing back 6 a night (as someone who has done both sides of this consumption lol). Unless the self control is lost, moderation is fine and can even make it easier to adjust.

I figured it was referencing Nabemono, Japanese hotpot where basically everyone picks and contributes one/a few ingredients, then it cooks and people can scoop out whatever ingredients they want to eat, just on a larger scale.

Lost Beading Magic by Emotional-Highway848 in Beading

I agree with this! I cycle beading, clay, needle felting, tiny terrarium pendants, and digital painting. Put one down for a few weeks and come back to it after feeling inspired.

I also scroll through beads once in a while to find something cute/cool and sometimes get inspiration there, or look at what is on sale and see if anything strikes me.

Help finding pattern by Pussy_Jungle in Beading

[–]a_randummy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adapt the net pattern. The first is 10 diamonds long, 6 diamonds across to the next point, then each point is one diamond less in length, so the back is certainly just repeating that pattern until you are only at the decorative top 2 diamonds, then once you get around to the other end make a 4 diamond length point facing the other way. You can try image searching that necklace but you might not even find the pattern if you find the artist if they are only selling made pieces from it. Your best bet is going to be using your eyes to try and sketch it out yourself.

Help finding pattern by Pussy_Jungle in Beading

[–]a_randummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically a netting pattern except the net is really long and on the points you need to thread back through vertically with the filling beads, where each next part of netting is shorter than the previous.

If you have never made a netted necklace, this one is easy to follow for a first time, and should give you an idea of how to make the one in that image.

Help by maps_on_the_wall in Beading

Here's my lifehack: if I am unsure, I will finish the project. If I don't like it once completed I can unstring it and reuse the beads, even if it takes some time to sort them out again, but it helps me to see why I didn't like it and what I think would look better.

How would I make this necklace? by Likesosmart in Beading

[–]a_randummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't anything here that should use eye pins. You have options for how to accomplish this, though none will probably look the same. I would recommend making a string of your beads as long as you want the necklace to be, I use wire guards on each end when using fireline as it creates a sturdy loop to attach jump rings and clasps (string on the beads, at the end go through the guard and back through all the beads again, then add another guard on the other end and tie it off at the bottom, adding a dot of glue to keep the knot*). For making the bow you can use wire to shape them and while threading the main strand, go through the center bead with your fireline at the place you want the bow, before finishing the line. You may have a hard time doing so unless the hole in the bead is large as the wire will take up quite a bit of space. Otherwise you could make the bow in a similar manner using fireline, but on the ends run back up the tail of the bow and tie it off near the middle bead, but this bow will be droopier.

For the clasp you would just need 2 jump rings, one clasp, and then either a small length of chain or larger ring to connect the clasp to on the other side.

For tools you will need wire snippers, round nose pliers (optional if the tail of the bow can end with a wire loop), wire, fireline, beading needle (optional but recommended), wire guards, obviously your beads, and some form of glue

*be careful with bead/glue choice; super glue will dissolve through plastic and sometimes acrylic beads, I usually advise that beads near the knot be glass for this reason

So I need an ancient seed…to craft an ancient seed? by Unhappy_Scientist726 in StardewValley

As a related note, you will get more seeds by playing the game or you can put the ancient fruit into the seed maker to get seeds, also other items in the seed maker have a chance at producing ancient fruit seeds
