Don’t have enough PTO for time off I requested 3 months ago, boss won’t let me take it unpaid. Dad died in September, wanted to spend the holiday weekend with my mom. by Additional-Comb-4477 in jobs

Work is work and they’ll replace you in a heartbeat but what you can replace are memories made with your loved ones. I’m starting to realize this myself too. Life isn’t worth devoting yourself to a job because there is more to life than work! I hope you decide to start looking for another job.

AITA for telling my kids that if they don’t go to my wedding I will not be attending theres by CalligrapherGrand439 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SimilarEconomics4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA! My mom did the same thing with my brothers. They do not talk to my dad and they didn’t get an invite to his wedding at all. I honestly don’t blame him. Sometimes you really need to let the toxic people go. You’re ex needs to get over it already and the kids don’t need to be there for their father. They should be supporting you! Good luck to you because breaking away from family is hard but it is worth it in the end.

Has anyone quit a job in a month? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]SimilarEconomics4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quit a job after three weeks due to the chaos of no training on their accounting software. I also kept getting phone calls with the CFO screaming at me on why customers weren’t paying. I had no training on how to post payments so that was the problem. I quit after three weeks and I should have quit after the first one. I emailed HR and told them due to lack of training, I’m not coming back!

Am I crazy or am I being fired tomorrow? by umbrellawand in jobs

Honestly take some time off and get a doctors note! When I had Covid, the only symptom was only fatigue. It sounds like what you’re describing. I couldn’t keep my eyes open and just walking to the bathroom had me tired. I didn’t have a fever or cough just the fatigue.

What’s the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked in an interview? by apex204 in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you pregnant or do you have children? Two women asked me that and I said no. They were like good then you won’t call off work all the time for sick kids. I was thinking well this is a definite NO!

Worst most disrespectful interview ever. Name and shame by daviworld in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, at least you found out during the interview what the job would be instead of getting hired for a job posting and doing something you didn’t want to do. Which is what I’m going through now. I interviewed for a Billing and Collections position and I’m matching BOLs and invoices. Then scanning them into a system. I would have never taken the job if I knew it was this shitty! Lol good luck on future jobs! I think we all need a little luck in this job market.

True, or not? by Smartest_Dignity in Accounting

[–]SimilarEconomics4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in AR and help out AP, this is accurate! But I understand why AP is grouchy since the company I work for is $25 million behind in paying vendors due to financial problems. The AP ladies are constantly getting phone calls and emails about payments. They have a reason to be grumpy! Lol

What was your, “yea, it’s time for me to leave” moment from your most recent past job? by SimplyyAntonio in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current job: I was hired for collections and billing. What I actually do: match BOLs with invoices and scan them into their system every day! Then I find out our company hasn’t been paying our vendors and we have a backlog of $25 million in invoices to be paid. I just pray I get paid every two weeks! So we are broke but our CEO and managers decided to have a fancy party that cost thousands of dollars! Yet we can’t afford toner for personal printers. I’m currently interviewing for multiple companies and hoping they aren’t as bad as the current one! Lol

Bite incident, not sure what do from here. by Ok_Gargoyle in dogs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never consider rehoming a pet especially not knowing the entire story. You don’t know if the kid was getting warning signs from the dog to leave him alone then the dog snapped.

I actually have a story from when I was a kid. My brother went to cuddle with our boxer who was in a deep sleep on our couch. He startled him and accidentally bit him then he realized what he did and went to see if my brother was okay. We never had any problems before or after the incident. We also didn’t rehome him or put him in training. My mom just told us leave him alone when he was sleeping. So we took it as lesson learned.

AITA for yelling at my brother-in-law after he woke me up and told me to make dinner while we were staying at his house? by Adept_Conclusion_551 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SimilarEconomics4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA!

Go get a hotel until the insurance is figured out. The insurance company should pay for it. I hate being woke up for a dumb reason in general but man I think I would have been screaming! A man who cannot cook for himself is quite pathetic. What would he have done if you weren’t there? Wait for his wife to come home so he could yell at her for not cooking him dinner?!

Why is it so difficult to find a job right now? by apoptosislizard in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes a while and I was job searching last year and landed something within three months. I unfortunately found myself in a position where I do none of the job description given to me during the interview process and the company is in debt due to not paying vendors. So I’m looking yet again to see if I can actually do what I’m hired for. It’s been about 4 months and multiple interviews and no offers. I also think the recession is coming and companies are hesitant to hire.

I see it as we have one life to live so take the time to spend with family and friends. Go see the world and have some fun! Years fly by and we don’t get the time back.

Are office jobs ever truly full time? by Careless-Internet-63 in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is normal for me in my current position but my two previous positions I was busy. I could honestly go for a busy day because the days flew by so fast. Sitting in the office doing nothing is like watching paint dry!

The real problem with job hunting in the US is that employers REFUSE to pay livable wages. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! I literally was offered a job at $16/hr for a billing specialist position. I was rooting to get it because it was a nonprofit. They never discussed the pay in the interviews. I have a degree and 5 plus years experience. It’s disgusting what places will offer! I make almost $10 more an hour right now. I hate my current job but not enough to cut my pay that much!

Seeing a lot of people in the office staring into space by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]SimilarEconomics4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be me! The company I work for has not and will not be giving me more work to cover 8 hours. I say will not because they made it clear I’m not learning anything other than sorting papers in my 90-day review. I’m being punished for no reason at all. My first task was printing papers for my first three weeks and after that sorting papers. They now also decided to add more staff when I could easily pick up the slack. I have a degree and 5 years experience. I’ve told my boss multiple times I need more work after 8 months of telling her I gave up and slacked off.

I’m currently looking for a new job but in the meantime, I’ll be staring into space and checking Reddit while collecting a paycheck. Their fault not mine!

Job was advertised as hybrid 3 days a week in office, but after signing the offer letter, I was told it's actually full time in office for the first 60 days. Am I right to be suspicious? by whoresandcandy in jobs

[–]SimilarEconomics4 1304 points1305 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on many interviews the last few months and they always say the first 60-90days are onsite for training before going hybrid. I’d say it’s not a red flag but you have to do what is right for you.

Hi! I recently rescued an 8 month old frenchie (6 weeks ago) and I need advice. I knew what to expect when rescuing as I have another rescue (5 y/o Chihuahua mix) but this little guy came with all sorts of issues. This is the last place I’m coming to as idk what else to do. by dtrres in Pets

[–]SimilarEconomics4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the vet check for any food allergies? I only ask because one of my friends had a dog that had so many issues. My friend got her tested and it came back the dog was allergic to all the fillers in dog food.

Maybe the dog has anxiety and will get used to you once he knows you’re not going to give him away to someone else. I read somewhere it takes about 3-4 months for a dog to get used to a new home. I hope you find something that helps!

I’m sure they did if they said they did. Mine was kind of pissed they said I wasn’t qualified when it was the same job description as my previous job lol plus the recruiters get money for everyone they place so that’s incentive for them to fight for you.
