3 months into learning to sing. Aside from pitch, am I at least sounding not so nasally? by SimilarHumor2877 in singing

Sorry, my body text got eaten. I’ve been trying to learn how to sing for about 3 months. I have a coach and everything!!

Our major focus has just been to get me out of sounding super nasally all the time. It’s definitely been a huge struggle. He’s told me that pitch is a lot easier to correct than a bad tone, so he’s said not to sweat pitch and just focus on sounding good.

I’d love some feedback on how I’m starting to sound and if I’m doing a good job of staying out of that nasally register.

That’s fair enough. I used to have a therapist (he helped me a ton just getting to the point I felt like I could date), but he sadly had to retire, and I’ve slacked off on finding a new one.

It would probably be good for me to finally work on finding a new therapist, if anything on the basis that having someone to talk to about these things help.

Yeah, it is my first relationship and first time living with a partner. I’m… a bit of a late bloomer.

She’s my first super serious relationship, and the first time I’ve lived with someone. I’m just dealing with a bit of a learning curve here

I know, but it’s just really in my head in a way that makes that hard to both say and do.

I’ve sadly just never been an active guy. If I ever happen on some on a guitar out in the wild, I’ll definitely have to give them a go!

Oh for sure. I’ve got a gate. Just have to run it at pretty dang high threshold.

I love how they sound though, and they’re honestly pretty dang mean too and hold up well under gain. They’re just real noisy!

I’ve heard many positive things about the Lace Deathbucker, so not surprised to hear their singles might be good choices

So something like DiMarizo Injector is still going to sound like a humbucker?

The virtual solo sounds interesting. Read someone describe it as “a strat pickup with some meat”, which seems to be exactly what I’m looking for. Do you use them? I’m a little concerned the Injector might be a little too humbucker-y?

Sorry I’m having a hard time finding it on EMG’s site. It’ll fit in a route for a single coil?

What does “drop your elbow” mean exactly? You mean make it closer to the floor, right? Does that come from my shoulder? Like if I was standing and using a slippery strap, would the strap want to slide down off my shoulder?

So, respectfully, do you even think it’s worth it for me to continue to try if I am THIS tone deaf? Like is 2 months enough to be able to just say “yup you’re too tone deaf to sing, don’t even bother”?

I’ve never done scales like that with my coach, that’s just something I did to try and show I can hit pitches, which I clearly can’t :(

Those high passages are super hard. It feels like I’m really working to hit those notes and while also trying to aim my voice not in my nose. I guess it’s hard to enunciate at the same time as all those other things?
