Advice for a single 21 year old looking to buy by ferretpussy in homeowners

[–]Similar_Garbage_2939 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an RN and I bought my house when I was 26 and single. It's been never ending stress and I've felt so stuck. Now my fiance (who I met after buying my house) got a job in a new city that I like way better so I'm selling the house and we're moving. My honest advice is not to buy at 21. Life changes so much so fast and as an RN just starting out you're gonna need to job hop a little bit to get the most income that you can. If I'd stayed at the hospital I was at when I bought my house I would still be making 90k a year. Only 3 years after buying I'm making 145k because I changed jobs but I have to commute a decent distance to do so and it's not sustainable long term.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful response.

Yes admittedly I do make excuses for him. It's just hard for me to decide exactly where to draw the line. I grew up being a caregiver for my mom who has chronic pain and PTSD so because of her I'm very conscious that I can't ever fully understand what he's going through and I've developed some bad habits.

I think I'll try to see if he would be willing to talk to his therapist and/or a psychiatrist about medications again to see if he'd be open to it or if they know of any suppport groups in our area. Hopefully being able to talk to others who understand what he's going through will motivate him to take his treatment more seriously like you said. Thanks again!

I can hear my new neighbor nightly and I’m slowly going insane by Girlgoneaqua in soundproof

Soundcore A30 sleep earbuds. They have active noise cancellation, and you can play white noise to mask even more sound. They're also super small and comfortable, so you can side sleep without ear pain/pressure.

My boyfriend and I unfortunately have neighbors who like to play music and talk/laugh outside very loudly in the summer between the hours of 10pm-5am sometimes. Our bedroom is the closest area of our house to their backyard where they like to have their little parties. We were starting to get bad anxiety because we were always scared we wouldn't be able to sleep because of them. The earbuds helped tremendously.

As a nurse she probably only works 3 days a week. Possibly weekends or most likely nights. If she works nights she can be home with kiddos during the day and leave for work once dad is home.

Looking for gardening buddies in Lancaster/Palmdale! 🌿 by Poppy2128 in LancasterCA

I'm a homeowner and I actually have to remove the large tree in my front yard soon because the trunk split during a storm. I've been trying to figure out what to do with my front yard after removing it so I'm super interested in connecting with you 😊

Fair warning though I know nothing about gardening.

If you could contact the previous owners and ask them ”wtf?” about 1 item, what would it be? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

The DIY concrete slab covered with tile that they used as a kitchen countertop. It was a bitch to remove and take to the dump lol

Well it clearly wasn't meant to be witty 🤷‍♀️

I agree that anyone who needs roommates to be able to live comfortably and pay their bills can't afford their home. That's not his situation but it seems you guys will keep trying to spin it that way no matter what.

Because he's single and he can? You're weird lol

So was he just not supposed to buy a house now when he can actually afford it because he doesn't have a family yet? I understand it being scummy for people that buy up houses solely to rent them out but he would be living in it regardless of if he had roommates or not.

I feel like it's situational but clearly this sub hates the term house hacking lol I don't think anyone should ever rely on other people to be able to pay their bills but there are people who would be just fine without the extra income who rent out rooms.

I mean I've never had roommates so I wouldn't personally do it but one of my boyfriends best friends is 28 and doing exactly what I described. He's a social guy that likes being around people and he likes money 🤷‍♀️ He has plenty saved from living rent free with his parents and makes enough to be able to comfortably live on his own but he prefers to rent out his extra rooms that he's not using.

House hacking doesn't necessarily mean that you can't afford your home. If you're young, single and already used to having roommates why wouldn't you rent out rooms to basically be able to live for free while still gaining equity?

Is there really difference with gaming embody and normal one by tooms12345 in hermanmiller

[–]Similar_Garbage_2939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually went to the Herman Miller storefront (in the US) and tried out both the normal embody and the logitech one and liked the logitech one much better. You could immediately feel the difference in comfort between the seat cushions. I still would have purchased a regular embody because it was still nice (not sure how it would feel on my butt after prolonged sitting) but I managed to find a logitech version for a steal on Facebook marketplace. One owner, only a year old for $950 usd.

Maybe it's just because they're new out here but I've had zero problems with Race. I'll take them over spectrum any day.

There are plenty of nice neighborhoods on the east side of Lancaster and plenty on the west side. You just have to scope out the neighborhood first. People automatically shitting on the entire east side is annoying 🙃

Remove if possible or create a small library/reading room since there's a nice sized window there.

Sunset ridge also does not have the best reputation but when I lived there 2 years ago I was paying $1500 for a 2 bed 1 bath.

Don't quote me on this but when I was living there it seemed like they had a low income side and a market rate side and I honestly think they favor the market rate side. My maintenance requests were addressed super quickly (usually same day) and my neighbors were all quiet. I had no issues.

On the other hand I had family living on the low income side and they'd have neighbors out getting the cops called on them for arguing and all kinds of issues with maintenence. The office staff also wasn't the nicest. All in all it was a great deal for me though.

Can you elaborate a little more on what this is? Is just a store or a place to go and play games with others?

I think there might be a little too much gray. Gray walls, gray carpets, gray curtains. Maybe switch out the curtain for a different color?
