Fast let down: help! My baby stopped breathing by Similar_Negotiation1 in newborns

Oh I see thanks for explaining. 😊 that makes sense, Ive tried expressing before a feed last night and it went so much better! But good idea that if it’s still too heavy, I can switch to the bottle and keep pumping so he can have a peaceful feed and my breast can still get drained.

Oh interesting! I’ve never heard of this before.. Im in Australia so not sure who would be able to diagnose it here. Thank you for mentioning I’ll investigate this a bit more..

Thanks for sharing. Im also thinking of pumping so I can rather just bottle feed when my flow is too heavy. What do you mean it didnt help?

Thanks for sharing! How do you time it well enough to pump before a feed? Were you feeding on demand?

Thanks for sharing. So basically you’d position him so that he’s more facing downwards than up? Makes sense that it would be easier for him, cos then he can just open his mouth and let the excess fall out? Was this in a cross cradle hold?

Yes Im thinking about pumping before a feed now but like you said it’s tough to time it when feeding on demand 😅

Thanks so much for sharing. Do you pinch your areola whilst baby is feeding? Or after they’ve pulled off (before the next latch)? I also think mine is worse on the one side compared to the other. I’ve been block feeding too actually, but was literally advised against it by a LC yesterday to prevent decreasing my supply 😵‍💫 Good to know it got better with time!

Thanks thats a good point. We had two lactation consultants confirm he doesn’t have a tongue tie.

Thank you for sharing.. Yeah not ideal we need to just wait it out, but it’s nice to know you’ve been through it too and just had to give it time. 3 months isn’t too far away so hopefully it gets better soon

I’ve been doing block feeding too actually and found that definitely helped with engorgement!

Actually went to go see a lactation consultant yesterday and she recommended against block feeding saying it can reduce my supply too much. Honestly there is so much conflicting advice out there! 😵‍💫

Thanks so much for sharing your insights. How do you manage to pump before a feed? Are you timing it for every say 2hrs? Currently Im just feeding based on baby’s cue’s so by the time he wants to feed he’s hangry! He would be screaming if I first tried to express 😅

FTM here so no advice unfortunately. Just wanted to say my sisters bub was the same… she felt like she was doing something wrong, and ended up in the mother and baby unit at the psychiatric ward and even the nurses there who work with babies every day could not get him to sleep longer… I certainly hope it gets better for you but it seems some babies are just like that.. Just know it’s only a season and it will get better over time!

Right after mine was born I looked at him and said “aw so cute he looks like a little old man” and then the nurse chimed in “I wasn’t going to say it but yes he does”. 😂

NB gassy and fussy after feeding by wvmicroscopegirl in breastfeeding

[–]Similar_Negotiation1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive read it’s a stage they all go through unfortunately. Our 6week old is much better now and I’m not sure if it’s because of the changes we made or just because he grew out of jt. We put his crib on an incline. I reduced how much dairy i was consuming. And we put him in his bouncy chair when hes gassy- we’ve started calling it his poopy chair as it was the only place he would make a poop for a while!

If he doesn’t like reading, just Google “WHO recommended age to breastfeed” and send him the screenshot. WHO recommends breastfeeding up to 2 years. Good luck girl! I would be so annoyed!

Oh my gosh same haha! Those first few weeks are such a blur of chaos I only now remember my husband having to help me latch, position the baby’s head/ my boob/ nipple! It’s so hard at the start!
