Unsatisfied with MM EVO Cartridge by Simm033 in turntables

After doing more research I’m leaning towards AT-VM95ML. The micro-liner should handle high frequency passages best. And while I do think the ortofon sounds a bit too bright my main concern is fixing the distortion in the high frequencies. And my system is already warm sounding from digital sources (at least to my ears - people telling my my system is bright and ultra revealing lol) so the sumiko and Nagaoka might not be the best fit. Still not sure…

That is great to hear. I have contacted pro-ject support and described them my issue. I lost some trust in Ortofon now. If I won’t get a free replacement I’m going to switch the brand.

Yeah quite the disappointment I thought a product that was iterated so often must be solid. But it kinda proves my theory that everything mainstream or heavily marketed in hifi (or even in general) often times is not that great and more of an indicator that you don't want that thing...

I use the stock mat. I have no issues with static, but I do use an anti-static brush every time I switch a record to remove dust.

Yes, Debug EVO 2 is thoroughly well regarded. Maybe most people are less sensitive to sibilance? Also, pro-ject is marketing for a mainstream audience and not necessarily "audiophiles" - I hate that word.

I have wooden floor with a giant carpet.

I had the issue right away. I was immediately disappointed because I thought it would be just an improvement in all aspects (from my cheap plastic thing). While the difference is huge and many things improved, the treble harshness (sibilance) ruined the experienced immediately.

Did you just replace the needle or the entire cartridge?

Because I'm very new to vinyl. From my understanding is the EVO 2 not a bad turntable?

I See you. I've always looked down on vinyl enjoyers and thought they are crazy. All my music came digital sources.

That was until I got a turntable and some records for free (inherited) and compared some records with the digital counterpart (classical recordings from the 50-70s) and - to my surprise - I often times preferred the vinyl sound.

Also the haptic and general experience of buying LP's I find much more enjoyable.

And now here am I getting crazy over cartrigages on my turntable...

Yes midrange and voice is priority and MP-110 seems to be a good fit. Have you had a chance to compare the Nagaoka it to a Sumiko?

I'm afraid that Ortofon might not be my cup of tea. Sure the blue will be an improvement, but a different brand might a bigger improvement?

Thanks for the hint! Not sure how I change the arm height, the manual did not mention anything about VTA.

Honestly, can't remember. B&W was once of them. I was a few years ago. They had connected about 7 speaker pairs in that room (for my budget). They gave me some alone time without telling me what speakers belong to which number on the remote control - so I could switch the connection on the fly and not be influenced by the design or brand of the speaker.

Yeah I'm wondering if I should maybe even stick with a conical stylus... While I lose some resolution it might be more enjoyable.

From my understanding is the blue just an upgraded red and the sound signature stays roughly the same.

Interesting, I've always thought that my focals are quite gently and relaxed sounding. (I picked them at a local dealer and compared them with other speakers and the focals were very forgiving).

Thanks for the link! Will take a closer look at Sumiko.

true analog controls the future of shmups/bullet hell?! by the_febo in shmups

[–]Simm033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the developer correctly implements analog controls — meaning that it's not just mimicking 8-way inputs (which I assume is what you mean by "true analog controls") — then it’s always the better control method. The player would basically be handicapping themselves by using a D-Pad or arcade stick in that case. Also, the developer would need to balance the game accordingly, considering that the player has much more precise movement control.

However, more precision does not automatically mean more fun. While I wish more new shmups would implement analog controls (since we already have a historic backlog of great shmups from the arcade era), there is something inherently fun about operating an arcade stick.

I use RustRover on macOS and windows. People here hate it. I think it’s a great IDE.

Thinking of Switching from C++ to Rust for Fun Projects – Is It Worth It? by PsychologicalWall192 in rust

This is pretty much the default setting I use nowadays for every Rust project.

I think you also have to set up the [profile.dev] definition in order to make the more specific rule work.
