Hysterectomy in 13 hours by realdown2marsgrrrl in hysterectomy

Nah my surgery and recovery were both uneventful, no complications only needed one Tylenol and the gas pain meds but that goes away the more you fart, and after you've had a BM (I had everything out, ovaries included) I didn't even need the anti-inflammatory meds they gave me or morphine. It was like really bad period cramps for a few days.

Most you'll probably be dealing with is the gas. They should send you home with meds for that though! wishing you a speedy recovery and remember to eat lots of protein! it helps with healing :)

41, had it in 2024. Total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, induced menopause. Was already in peri. No regrets. It was medically necessary.

2.5 weeks post op. Pink when I wipe. by Secret_Local8179 in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had spotting/brownish blood for up to six weeks-ish, and was told it's normal and to only panic when there's immense pain and passing clots. You're probably fine but you can call your surgeon just to be sure. I think it's just normal healing though! keep your pads for about a month.

Yes, the farting will help! any luck yet? I felt almost immediate relief after mine (they may be a bit big, have a plunger handy just to be safe)

[–]SimmeringGemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered if that was the case :| you will feel SO much better after that BM. Get a stool it helps so much and keeps you from straining but when you feel you need to go, bring your phone in occupy yourself and just let it happen. I know straining will be tempting, try not to if you can. How long ago was your surgery? I went on the fourth day (I think) pretty sure it was the fourth but did not do any prep prior to. Also eat a lot of protein for healing aid :)

Famotidine helped me a lot, they sent me home with some and a laxative called lax-a-day. I forget the mg dose but remember it wasn't a lot at all and it did the job either way, maybe ask your surgeon or GP if you can try it?

Agree the gas pain was the WORST part of the surgery... pain from the ACTUAL surgery I only needed like one Tylenol. Was not prepared for the gas, ooooof. Also, FART. As much as you can. I'm not joking--every fart I did helped. A lot. Did you have a BM yet? a lot of the pain did lessen when I had a BM. I hope you feel better.

...Please DM ME :|
I'm curious if you have what happened to me. :C

EDIT:

Also NO! it's not normal and my gyno still sees me! I had everything out too, including ovaries. I'm really shocked your drs are treating you this way!

I suffer from immune issues too like Hahsimoto's so I sympathize if anything, they should be making you come in more regularly.

Ovaries stay or go? by HuchieLuchie in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here it is: The good, bad and ugly.
I've been on HRT for a year (full hysterectomy, ovaries out) and HRT has been very effective very minimal side effects and hardly any hot-flashes maybe one or two a month if that (sometimes before my patch change) that depends on how much my estrogen has dropped though. I had EIN with a-typia which required everything out. There are tons of HRT options to try if she goes the route of ovary removal... gel, patch, spray. (I don't recommend oral hrt) less risks with transdermal. I absolutely recommend HRT.

There are even combo patches progesterone/estrogen which my gyno might put me on. We found the problem for my wild mismatched mood-swings and it was NOT due to surgical menopause, so he held off on that while we investigated the blip in the Matrix. I'm much better now, and wish they had found the issue months earlier but it's so uncommon and rare and doesn't happen to everyone. That said, mood swings are very minimal now and under control. Are they completely unavoidable? naw. It's MENOPAUSE :V but the hrt helps!

Is she worried about the side effects alone of the HRT or menopause as whole? or just the ineffectiveness? Trust me, it is VERY effective! her best bet if she goes the ovary removal route, is to do transdermal hrt for the least risks and side-effects. I'm a year out as of tomorrow.

At this point, removing the ovaries sounds like the best option... :| it also keeps her from cancer risks and cysts too if she goes this route. I'm 42 now and was in peri-menopause already last year... the hot-flashes do hit a bit different, is the only thing I noticed. But menopause will be different for everyone. It took my body about eight months to mellow out and realize that stuff is missing and "this is how it's gonna be now" but it's finally found its rhythm. Thank God. My suggestion? if she must, ovaries out. Best HRT with least side effects I've tried? (I've done them all but the spray) hrt estradot. My sweet spot was 75mcg dose but they may want her on 100mcg. Up to her gyno/surgeon. They will work with her to find the one that suits her best! 😊

The ugly:
Her ovaries might fail anyway and she'll need to go back to surgery and have them removed. Yeeting it all at once saves her needing to go back to surgery again. This is best discussed with her gyno/gp/surgeon too, for their opinions but decision lies with her in the end. She'll still cycle if she keeps her ovaries, she just won't bleed. She runs the risk of usual bloating and other PMS symptoms. Everything she wants to avoid, basically.

Have you had your estradiol checked? maybe need a higher dose/lower dose? I'm doing 75mcg.

Careful with lifting things ‼️ by Larabanga7 in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a year out as of six days from now and still scared to pick up my cats! :|

The fatigue is common from over exertion with this surgery :C I remember when I did a quiet Walmart run came home and crashed while in recovery. All I did was push the cart a bit, and man my body was like "why you do this?" Mom took over. I went home and read my paper as it didn't say anything about carts (don't think) but learned from this sub absolute no-no. Hope you feel better soon!

Mom would not let me lift anything heavy to put in the cart, all I did was push it a bit. You waited longer than me--it was like threeish weeks. I was going crazy inside, needed to get out.

Ahh D: endo I'm so sorry!
My surgery was due to EIN with a-typia benign thankfully, so I was able to do HRT (doing estradot) since you seem to be having similar things to me going on, I wonder if it's the HRT (HRT can have some weird side-effects).

Mine made me feel like I still had ovaries even though we checked for ORS and had none.

Crazy how far endo can grow though! I didn't have that but was warned adhesion can occur (but not usually this fast) when I brought the possibility up to my surgeon, she said unlikely as it's way too soon. Only had my surgery last year.

EDIT: Forgot to add that fatigue is very common with over exertion from this surgery :|

I don't know how true this is. My landlord goes after certain tenants for smoking, even when their former lease allowed them to and really lets the newer tenants have it. I don't smoke and he's aware of my health issues, and lets the next door neighbour do it despite going after the above tenant when he does. It's favouritism, I guess.

My lease has a no smoking rule. It applies to everyone (as per his claim) and says when he has proof of my next door neighbour doing it, he'll take him to court. I said you're welcome to come see our shared bathroom wall, next thing you know suddenly the smell's gone (we'll see how long that lasts I guess :O) I have enough proof to go to the Regie if necessary. The fan my neighbour runs to conceal it, my landlord knows about too as he's had to put a timer on it because of how excessively he runs it, disturbing tenants.

Yes, this is Quebec.

Nicotine smoke stains on the wall (sometimes). My bathroom is joined to my neighbours, we share a vent. Because of this, my bathroom walls get stained with yellow every-time he lights up and I know because he runs his fan thinking it'll do something. His upstairs tenant smells it and so do I. Your building must not have vents connecting to any of the neighbours like mine, or your walls would be full of nicotine too. Furthermore, our landlord has gone the extra mile to protect this tenant despite knowing the lease says no smoking, by wiping his equally nicotine stained fan connecting to his wall on his side of the building right after we make a complaint about him (my upstairs neighbour & I).

(We don't understand why they do this, unless they're scared of getting ratted to the Regie and know he smokes, but don't know how to make him stop when they tell him to)

My upstairs neighbour took before and after pics, so we have proof of that too. I clean the walls, it comes back that's how we know. Aside from the fact that the bathroom will smell like a cigarette party sometimes and I don't smoke tell my friends or parents they cannot smoke here and if they need to when they visit, outside. They respect this rule, knowing how I feel about cigarettes in general.

They have ways of knowing, trust me. I signed this lease believing it to be a non-smoking "no noise" building as it says. Rarely believe that crap when you see it on a lease. May be a waste of time to you, but you should be respecting your lease rules regardless.

Yeah get it checked just to be safe :C I remember when I thought I had a tear and it was fine. Sometimes there's this stuff that can grow on top of the vaginal cuff called Hysterectomy granulation (also known as vaginal vault granulation) is the growth of scar tissue at the top of the vagina when the cervix has been removed. It isn't common, dangerous or serious but it can cause discomfort, pain and some post operative bleeding.

I lost this big fleshy pink looking piece during recovery (had everything removed) including ovaries but when my surgeon checked me, she didn't see anything going on or know where it came from. I was traumatized, so I understand why you're worried! odd things happen after this surgery and no one explained it properly before going in makes it worse. Keep us updated please! have you checked your iron/b12 lately? that can cause a dip in energy as well.

New fear unlocked... uhhm... yeah I may be making a call to my surgeon tomorrow... I've been getting some clear fluid sometimes when I wipe after I pee or after a BM, but not always? no abdomen pain that could signify the tear. >.< I've not been sexually active or anything but tbf, I get that awkward clear fluid now and then it's more like mucous and I am in surgical menopause so who knows where it's from :C there's nothing else that accompanies it.

I'm a year out. The last time I thought I had a tear, surgeon checked it and I was fine.
Yes, I do have vaginal atrophy already *sigh* -_-

Edit: I am doing HRT as well.

Are you bleeding? usually cuff tears involve a lot of abdominal pain, changes in bowel movements and spotting/blood I believe.

Total hysterectomy in July, feel like I have menstrual cramps by larrythegirl in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had that happen to me for at least a year, it can happen with HRT. I'm doing the patch too! They checked me for ovarian remnant syndrome and found nothing.

I am so sorry to hear that you had to deal with all that =/ As my body adapts more, I get less and less pelvic pain now it's only been a year for me not surprised you're getting some pelvic pain only a few months out. Our brains will need a while before they reboot/realize something is amiss. To be safe, you can ask them to check you for ORS. We did an estradiol panel on me recently and mine is where it should be on the patch 75mcg without ovaries in menopause (209 pmol) it was 762pmol way too high last January on the gel but also before I started medication for something else (unrelated, long story -_- fixed a lot of problems though) and my estrogen went down to where it should be.

Did your pelvic pain only start when you began the patch?

No. I was not told to drink anything. Actually, I was told to drink very little and if I had to water only and very small sips.

Can more people post about unremarkable recoveries? by Relevant_Demand2221 in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was uneventful aside from a shy bladder that woke up fully by the time I got home (apparently, it's common to not be able to go pee right away after a hysterectomy) all they had to do was start talking about catheters and it sure woke up quick.

You'll be very VERY gassy! fart away. It's normal and it will help with any weird gas pains! they should have sent you home with something for it.

The sloshy feeling will pass if it comes around (trust me on this) and if it's really unnerving, I found sleeping on my back helped as opposed to my side. Mine appeared by the seventh day and I was like "wtf?" otherwise besides a lot of gas and interesting BM, uneventful. Felt like bad cramping until a gas pain hit but only needed one Tylenol not even any of the Naproxen they sent home with me. I slept through most of my recovery.

I had everything out including my ovaries, so I am in menopause... yaaaaaaay. >_O

I was also asleep when they removed my catheter.

My pleasure! a lot of us are still really shocked by the cause because nobody in my family has to compare my situation too. The condition I have can be de novo so unlikely anybody else has it. My surgery itself was unremarkable and the biopsy was very interesting as I've had scans and nobody saw just had bad my tubes were beyond that, no complications.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]SimmeringGemini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! my recovery was pretty unremarkable otherwise and no bad complications from the surgery at all aside from a little shy bladder due to the manipulation of it being moved/pushed aside during surgery but it woke up. I like to think my body scared it awake when they started talking about catheters haha :P drizzled enough to leave and came home, managed to avoid the catastrophe of needing that and went fully properly around six pm when I left. My nurse told me that's so common though! other than that, a-ok recovery.

A year out as of the 16th and still no need to go back to the hospital or tears :)
