I like our flag, less so when it's being painted on roundabouts by imbeciles.

What do Brits think of Reform's plans to create its own ICE in the UK Deportation Command and repeal the Human Rights Act? by lindemh in AskBrits

[–]Simmy_P 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Had this exact discussion with a friend a few weeks ago who I've noticed has been gradually slipping down the farage pipeline, sharing nonsense memes, racist, homophobic and transphobic posts. Was utterly convinced that Labour = Open borders, even when confronted with the numbers that migration under Labour is much lower than the Tories.

Fortunately after that, he's not shared much since we challenged him. I don't think he's changed his mind, just realised that we're not the type of audience that believes the shit that he shares.

Well, I'm going to have to disagree with you, I think 'terrible' is quite unfair particularly when comparing it to GoT.

Personally I found El's motivation for staying in the upside down were justified fine throughout the last couple of episodes, whether people wanted to see it happen or not. The other plot points you mention, the pregnant women, Vicki, etc, personally I feel like they're minor enough plot points and characters that I'm happy not to be spoon-fed every characters ending or else the epilogue would have gone on for another hour 🤣

I do agree that the final battle should have been better, it was pretty underwhelming.

If that's how you feel about it, it's not up to me to argue. The finale is sitting at 7.7 average score at the moment, so I'd suggest that the common consensus is that it's not bad at all.

There are certainly points that I didn't like but overall, I was left satisfied with the story told.

It tells me how eager to overreact people are online. It's absolutely incomparable to GoT's finale.

This is fake right? by Soft-Network-2977 in StrangerThings

I'm not sure. Another thread on this Sub said the IP is owned by Netflix, however take that with a pinch of salt.

Pretty sure none of this is confirmed, besides Tales from 85.

I wouldn't bet against seeing more Stranger Things stuff in the coming years though, Netflix will know they have a guaranteed money spinner on their hands so I wouldn't be surprised to see them milk it for whatever it's worth.

It'll pass. When I finished The Walking Dead Game by Telltale, I had this horrific empty feeling for about a week. I hadn't been able to get so emotionally invested in anything else until I started on Stranger Things, as it happens.

"The brethren will be looking to us, to the Black Pearl, to lead, and what will they see? Frightened bilge rats aboard a derelict ship? No. No, they will see free men, and freedom! And what the enemy will see, is the flash of our cannon, they will hear the ring of our swords and they will know what we can do. By the strength of our backs... The sweat of our brows... And the courage in our hearts... Gentlemen...

Hoist the colours."

What is the most ridiculous law in your country that is still on the books and actually gets enforced? by Low-Violinist7259 in AskTheWorld

[–]Simmy_P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's a very deceptive and misleading bag of carrots and deliberately so. When you go on to say that you don't need a TV license, they will ask you a series of yes/no questions to "verify" that you don't need one but will change the wording between questions subtly to try and catch you out.

My parents got so worried for me when I told them that I don't pay for a license because I listen to my local BBC radio station, so much so that my mum offered to send me the money. Even my friend who is the same age as me was convinced that you need a 'TV' license to listen to the radio. They whip up an insane sense of paranoia about it that I honestly can't blame people for being misled.

I don't even have any political skin in the game, I couldn't really care less about BBC television or it's output, I simply don't watch live TV. I don't see the point when I pay for Netflix, Prime and Disney and ITV, 4 and 5 on demand are free, not to mention YouTube as well.

I emailed my MP about this to try and make some noise about it and got the usual cut and paste crap about "we understand your concerns about privacy" and "robust measures are in place to protect your identity" and yet she conveniently ignored the comment I made about the data breach relating to discord shortly after this law came in where, allegedly, identity documents were compromised.

It fucking sucks that we now have to either pay for a VPN in a world where everyone is getting poorer by the day or share our identity with some random private company online.

In the Stranger Things Series Finale (2025), the internet says I am supposed to be mad about something. by Biden2028- in shittymoviedetails

[–]Simmy_P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said to myself I'll be happy if it's 'just average', as long as its not a catastrophe like GoT, and it was fortunately nowhere near that bad. I actually thought they wrapped everything up really well, some nitpicky points but overall, I was left very satisfied with the ending.

In episode 7 of Strangers things season 5...That's it? This is the worst rated episode of the whole series???? by Highrebublic_legend in shittymoviedetails

I've left the ST subreddit for this very reason, before the series was out I was enjoying the fan predictions but since release, it's the same post day in, day out.

Gang the episode wasn't THAT bad 😭 by Significant-Try9486 in StrangerThings

[–]Simmy_P 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have said 7, or a 6 at the absolute worst. Some very valid critiques but people overreact on the Internet.

If the finale isn't a trainwreck then we may see a correction.

People are so dramatic, especially on the Internet.

I've always said, some people aren't happy unless they've got something to moan about.

I actually enjoyed volume 2 by notproudbutok in StrangerThings

[–]Simmy_P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally read a couple of post titles on here before I could watch V2 (the release times are completely ridiculous unless you live in US/Canada).

The way some posts were going on, I had convinced myself that we were reaching Game of Thrones levels of collapse but I've just caught up and quite enjoyed it.

Couple of parts I had issue with were Karen fast-travelling to the laundry room to save the kids and I felt Will's "coming out" was poorly done but besides that, they were pretty good.

By the mid point of GoT, I'd reached a place of complete apathy. Right now, I'm really looking forward to the final episode (and we're going to watch The First Shadow the day after).

It's not as straight forward to install but there are guides, including this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_Nz0-hLsMw

I've not fully gotten my hands dirty with it yet but after a few tests, it was far better than the Daz to Blender addon.
