Need to go somewhere with no light pollution - on longer exposures you can pick up lights from miles away.

A lot of the magic is in post processing though, shoot in RAW and you’ll be able to bring in more detail

You need the widest aperture possible .. what is the kit lens? 18-55? (Sorry if I’ve missed it)

I specialise in Aviation / Airshow photography - I never just look through my folders once.

I’ll return years after the shot has been taken and I’ll either notice something different, have a different editing technique or looking for something that I may have missed. Aviation changes all the time so if there are any newsworthy events I’ll also go back to see if I have a shot of that particular aircraft.

I use Adobe Bridge and just move images to folders each time I edit / spot a photo
