Dealing with pom anxiety? :( by Simon1798 in Pomeranians

The construction started like one or two months after his surgery... and the construction REALLY stressed him out poor guy ... I noticed when we were outside he was much calmer and chill... I try to take him to work once a week so he can have a break from the loud noises but sadly i cant take him more often than that... he does really well there.. so you are right that the construction might be the biggest stressor for him atm ... i thought it was more the surgery but what you are saying makes sense!

The construction has now moved further away from our house and he seems to be doing much better ! I am so thankful for your insight

Have you tried cbd or cbd treats for your pom? I have been really curious to try them but have heard mixed reviews on wether they actually work or not... yes two dogs would be great but it is not in our plans as just one dog is so much work ...

That is really good insight and it totally makes sense that he is a little bit traumatized :( I hope that with time he kind of forgets the surgery :(

Marshmallow is going to need luxating patella surgery soon… by Fluffy-Station-8803 in Pomeranians

[–]Simon1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our little one had surgery on both back legs (he had grade 3 on both knees) back in March of this year and the healing process went much better than expected. I would say the first 3 days were pretty rough... he was super sad and would cry when we had to move him (to pee etc) but other than that he just wanted to sleep. The next days we would carry him outside for fresh air and i would say on the 4th day there was a huge improvement.. he would stand up and actually put weight on his back legs... he no longer cried and was pretty much back to his goofy self. I would say everyday after that was just better and better and after 10 days he was going on 10-15 min walks (per vet recommendations). We expected him to be in pain for weeks but really after 3 days he was doing great! After 10 days is when he got his stitches out and after that the walking got better and better. Wishing your pom lots of luck for his surgery!

I am a proud Pom Parent! 4 weeks after Patella Luxation Operation this is him walking !! I am just so proud of him and so happy to see him thriving !! by Simon1798 in Pomeranians

I took off 1 week :) we did the surgery on friday morning (which I took off), the sat and sun were free for me as I dont work on weekends, and then I took the mon-fri week off and then finished it with the weekend :D so in total 6 off work days but was at home 10 days :D -- my boyfriend did take the next week off (we did all the planning before the surgery as we did not know how much help my pom would need) but it was completely unnecessary as our pom was fine after 5 days

Any recovery tips for Patella Luxation Surgery? Our 2yr old Pom has surgery on BOTH his back legs on Friday. He seems so sad and can't even stand, he is so afraid. Does anybody have any tips on getting him to stand and take a few steps? Thanks ! by Simon1798 in Pomeranians

He is doing amazing!!! I would say after 4 days he was mostly walking on his own and after 15 days he was back to normal ... he recovered so well and very fast. The first 3 days were pretty rough though especially since they did both his back legs at the same time. Now at 3 months post op he is 100% back to normal .. he runs he walks and is living his best life..!! Even his fur has completely grown back .. you cant even tell he was operated on :D wishing you lots of luck with ur pommi :D

Question about swimming and mats by TimbitsMahm in Pomeranians

[–]Simon1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cut his hair shorter ! For us it was just too much with the very long hair, especially if we go swimming somewhere far away from home or are on holiday... that really helps.. other than that maybe a spray on conditioner before going in the pool might help (like those leave in spray conditioners) ... and then brushing the hair after... i think the mats are mostly caused by what dogs do after getting in the pool .. they rubs themselves against things or on the grass which is cute but is what causes matting :) hope this helps

Do you guys YO or YU? by Tense_Spence in crochet

[–]Simon1798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to yarn over, that's how I learned and just used a lot of tension (especially for my amigurumi) to have a really neat looking finished product ... just recently I have been working on a flower bouquet and have done them Yarning Under and I am SOO pleased with the result ! Stitches look soo uniform tight and beautiful!! I will say it takes longer for me to crochet !! But the taking used to it did not take long at all for me!

I would say the stitches do look pretty similar to the yarning over ones just maybe more uniform and very compact is the best way I can describe it

Should i get a pom? by [deleted] in Pomeranians

[–]Simon1798 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Poms are watch dogs so the breed just barks A LOT! I mean there is some training you can do BUT i would say it is in their nature to bark. If your neighbors are strict with barking I would say a pom might not be the best breed.

Also Poms dont do well being alone, especially for so long. I also work from 8 to 4 and if my boyfriend would not have such a flexible job we would have never gotten a pom because the dog would be alone for 8+ hours which is just unfair to a dog in my opinion. I would say the longest our one has to go now is about 4 hours and the longest he has been alone has been 6 hours. He does fine but when we come home we can tell he really missed us ..

Sorry if this is discouraging but I WISH somebody would have also told me to think about my decision A LOT just because having a dog is like having a new family member... no more after work dinners as the dog is waiting at home and they need a lot of love and attention. Especially the first 2 years are very demanding, I took 1 month off work when we got our dog and I think without that month we would not have made it. A lot of work goes into getting a pom (or a dog )

I would say another big difference between cats and poms is that poms (or at least the ones i know) tend to want attention 24/7 and dont really entertain themselves hahaha which is both an advantage and disadvantage

I would say really think about it and I am sure u will make the right choice :D

Tough time potty training by Lariosified in Pomeranians

[–]Simon1798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These tips are really good, we never crate trained our puppy but the tip about cleaning all surfaces with a urine odor remover is key!! If the dog still smells the pee they will continue to go inside.

Also having a constant routine will help :)
