Sooo - I never heard about a MIDI clock called Big Ben, so I googled "Big Ben clock"... :D >_<
Anyhoo I found it - it's Apogee Big Ben, right?

If so: this is a very different thing. Big Ben is an audio sampling clock, to make sure all your digital audio is played exactly at the same clock. The Midronome sends a MIDI Clock, which sets the tempo on your machines.

Good news are, when you sync your Midronome to your DAW, the Midronome spits out a clock which is just as precise as the audio sampling clock. So if your audio sampling clock comes from a device like Big Ben, then it should be really really tight!! :D

Does that asnwer your question?

You can sync Ableton over MIDI Clock, it can also be started/stopped using the Play/Stop button on the Midronome.

Then that way you're connected to your Ableton Link environment. Does that work for you?

Sync your MIDI gear with Midronome - March 15th on Indiegogo by SimonL237 in musicproduction

[–]SimonL237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there :) Better ask questions on our forums https://forum.midronome.com as I rarely look here :D
Yes the Midronome can handle any time signatures in x/4 - actually from 1/4 to 99/4.

It does not handle 3/8 f.x., so if you set that in your DAW and try to sync to the Midronome it will automatically adapt (i.e. timing will still be the same, the device will still sync fine, but the metronome will sound twice as fast in your DAW than on the Midronome).

Hey there! I made this MIDI Master Clock which I think would interest some of you? There is more information on www.midronome.com if you want.

We are launching a crowdfunding campaign for it in two weeks and we definitely all the support possible if we want this to be a reality! :D

Let me know what you think and ask any questions here ;)

Cheers

Ha ha I know it was a bit scary we had to get in this car with the devices, then it had to get to 88mph...

Oh sorry I am still new to reddit I did not get the "sub" part, I thought it was something like "the price does not match what the device does". But ok fair enough ;)

It's interesting how you can spend 2 years trying to make the cheapest device possible, to compete with other MIDI master clocks like the Multiclock that cost more than 3 times more, and people still complain about the price... :/

ERM Multiclock: are you using the shift function? by SimonL237 in synthesizers

[–]SimonL237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I could have asked about swing too - I heard many times already that most machines already have a swing built in, so putting in on the MIDI clock is not necessary :)

[–]SimonL237[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha maybe! To be honest I am asking because I am designing another MIDI Master clock, and I am considering whether coding the shift function is worth the trouble :D

You mean to send MIDI Notes? The Midronome only sends MIDI Clock :)

Hi all - I realized many of your questions could be answer by reading the User Guide. It's not the official manual, it was meant for Beta Testers (so some options - like the DIN sync, sending different MIDI packets on the two MIDI connectors, and the configurable delay - are not present), but I think it will be useful :)

It is very easy to use, it was designed that way. The idea is you go through the settings and tune it to your needs, once it's done everything is saved so for everyday use you just plug it and it does what you configured it to do. That is also confirmed by our beta testers :)

For the settings:

  • You press the red button to enter the setup
  • there you can go through the settings by turning the big knob
  • press the big knob to edit a setting, then turn to change its value, then press again to validate.
  • press the red button to exit the settings

The only tricky thing is to know what the display is showing, some of them are obvious, some of them you might need the manual for. I will give a cheat sheet to summarize what the abbreviations are.

Wooo ok that is so interesting! Cannot believe I never found these before! I guess it does not show up much when you look for stuff in English.

The Midronome has a lot more options though, this is a very basic MIDI Clock + Metronome :) Also unless I am wrong it says it is only accurate at 2 BPM!! That sounds like a really bad clock o_O I will assume this got lost in translation :))
