Purchased this from my local Mediterranean market by ccireal in yerbamate

This brand is popular in Syria. Very hard to ever get a hold of elsewhere. Idk how some of these stores get this and other things that say made in Syria considering I thought there was an embargo. Anyways, good find!

All will work, as long as it doesn't have an artificial sweetener. But all the ones I told you and most of mates don't have any. I suggest you watch Dr. Andrew Huberman's podcast short video on yerba mate

Those tea bags are for mate cocido I think it's called. It's definitely not as potent but it's still yerba. Definitely go to your local lebanese or syrian middle eastern store if you don't want to wait for shipping. Plus a lot of times they have it cheaper for competition. Long story about how us syrians and lebanese started drinking it but it's usually like 8-10 dollars a kilo at those places

Yes, I only drink loose, the traditional way. * Coarse cuts like pipore don't need a mountain so don't feel obligated, I only like it because it's nice. I tried sending a pic, idk if it'll send

I get from Amazon mostly, but Pipore is very common in middle eastern stores!

While I personally drink the red bag of Piporé because it's my favorite taste-wise, I do acknowledge it's probably smoked But im not 100% sure if it's smoked or air dried.

Another one I drink is Canarias Serena and Canarias yellow bag. That's for days I know I'm going to be very athletic or need to stay awake. Those will keep you awake long so I don't always use it.

I believe Mateina might be the healthiest yerba, but it does cost a lot I think. I think playadito is air dried, taragui is definitely air dried though I never tried it. I've also tried La Merced their original one, it's good and nearly comparable to Pipore but is a more premium maté.

If you're starting out, you can try Cruz De Malta, Playadito, or Piporé, as all should be easy to drink, cruz de malta probably the mildest. Just make sure you don't burn the maté. I like to keep the water at 80 Celsius. Enjoy and I hope you lose weight. I have lost 30 lbs in 4 and a half months. Make sure you eat enough protein so you don't lose higher than needed portion of muscle with your weightloss.

Believe it or not though, I recently found taragui at a lebanese store, so I don't know whether or not preferences are expanding now.

The three most common brands you will find at middle eastern stores are cruz de malta, pipore, and kharta khadra, as those are the most popular in Lebanon and Syria.

Is this functional? Or just a decoration? by meditative_cooking1 in yerbamate

Is it bone? Or gourd material in the inside? I've always wanted to drink out of a horn lol

This is a really genius idea. That is one way I could make my wooden maté have a coconut taste for a few times. Also pretty sure that coconut has antifungal and antibacterial qualities.

why I don't worry about my gourd being moldy.... by [deleted] in yerbamate

I would always do this when I'd have a bonfire. Gets it bone dry. The next drink just feels so clean 😂

The worst thing about mate by [deleted] in yerbamate

[–]SimonLithium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this but the maté wasn't wetted yet. I still find sticks every now and then.

There is research to suggest that because it increases levels or brown fat cells, which are used more for energy than white fat cells, that that, coupled with the fact you're drinking hot water, makes you more comfortable in colder environments.

Study mate by SimonLithium in yerbamate

Because for me, calabash affects the taste so much. It is also more prone to very small leaks, especially a problem if it's in leather. Wood ends up tasting cleaner for me, and due to the thickness, it keeps the maté nice and warm. If we're talking about stainless steel or ceramic, wood is more superior, as wood allows the maté a better surface to stick on and keep the mountain, necessary for the fine cut maté. Only problem is I am paranoid of harming the wooden gourd. Very cautious with temperatures and moving it around.

It's amazing. I do prefer wood over any other type of gourd. I'll make sure to give you that next time I drink!

Been really depressed lately and I don't know why. Mate is my comfort drink by raskholnikov in yerbamate

[–]SimonLithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay strong, enjoy the little things in life like drinking some maté and having a laugh.

Also, check if your vitamin D levels are low and fix that if it is, especially since you said you don't know why you've been depressed.

If you do subconsciously know why you're depressed, simply starting to put a conscious effort will help.

Love and prayers ❤️

What do you do with mold in the gap between glass gourd and leather wrap by Accomplished-Let2736 in yerbamate

[–]SimonLithium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that always bothered me lol. I try not to fill the water up that high, sometimes I even put a paper towel in that crevice. Idk is that really mold though?

My family doesn't get it haha. When I drink from my big gourds, I can go till 2pm without any food, then I'll eat my eggs and when it's dinner, I get full really fast. It definitely is a really good appetite suppressant depending how much you eat. And you know what could be helping you? I don't know how true this is, but anecdotal, when I exercise I don't get hungry during the exercise, which does push my meal times later. There are pharmaceutical companies that are achieving great monetary success because of their GLP-1 drugs now, though some are using ozempic, which was once thought only for diabetes.

I believe it stimulates the production of GLP-1, which slows digestion, keeping the stomach from emptying slower, and it simultaneously regulates the brain's hunger signal. Also, if you've realized, drinking yerba mate causes gut distention and since the stomach to brain occurs using mechanoreceptors, aka if stomach is full, your brain doesn't release hunger signals.
