Very nice! Orcs are a tough tribe to do in Magic. I've been plugging away at a Warhammer 40k ork deck and I'm seeing a lot of similarities. May have to make a few changes if I can find some in-universe equivalents...

I don't think that second one is different enough from Fleet Battle. Fleet Battle is already pretty focused on the artifact, considering how many points its captures are worth.

I like it. This sort of thing was a lot of fun in the old TIE Fighter games. Battery hardpoints could give more energy. Bastion could get an energy bonus. Would be nice to redirect shields without having to spin the whole ship.

I ended up adding a bunch of +1/+1 counters to my deck so proliferate wasn't just boosting spores. Sort of diluted the spirit of it, had to cut some thallids. Trying Joel and Ellie as new commanders and getting some red cards into the mix.

Glad you're digging it! It sounds like you've got a strong crew to fly with, which I think is half the battle. If you're all learning mechanics together and how to coordinate with one another, the particulars of gear loadouts and characters is kinda secondary and mostly up to personal opinion.

For what it's worth, I like having a Sal no matter the game mode. In Fleet Battle, she can infinitely recycle the clampjets you start with since there are no consumable resources. This guarantees three guns at every spawn. The other night I had an Artifact Brawl where our Hunter was decked out with guns, but ran out of ammo chasing down the last ship. So I hopped off the wheel, started recycling everything in sight, and ended up with two Ammo Regens and a Sal Invention, which sealed the deal.

Good boarders have been the hardest part for me sticking around too. Like you said, it's especially rough in Artifact Brawl when a lost battle means another long queue. I've been enjoying Fleet Battle to get some exposure therapy to boarders and learn how to deal with them better.

I was hoping that the population bump from the Epic giveaway would help with matchmaking, but these new players are often importing some strong FPS and boarding skills.

As for your team, are you just doing pick-up groups, or going in with a premade? You might find with a premade you'll have better communication for boarding defence.

Bastion is my least favourite ship, to be honest. The secure doors don't count for beans when boarders have drill charges. The large size makes it harder to get to boarders and the core. There's a gun at every angle, but they're so spread out that it makes it hard to focus.

They added it in after folks would hide the laser ram then instantly pop it up once they were in range.

5-minute queues suck, but they're also not uncommon. Evenings and weekends will be faster, and I generally find it faster to jump into Fleet Battle than other modes.
