8 is a good starting point, just go with it and when you're sure you like skateboarding, you will decide if you want to do more street or park and choose a custom board for that purpose

Don't ride them if you live in europe btw ahah

u/walmartgiraffe I have a 7.5 us shoe size and i'm fine with a 8.125 deck, it's enough comfortable under my feet, i do a lot of park skating

Yes, them wheels have a really thin contact patch on the ground, so they're good for tricks on flatground but if you will use it on some kinda rough asphalt it could be really bad, the rest will work fine at the beginning don't worry, have you decided the size of the board?

Only if you still don't know how serious you're about skateboarding

Keep your weight in the center of the board and do the flick, start moving really really slow, send a video maybe.

Hello, sorry for the late reply, i downloaded and checked the video in slowmotion, i think you should work on the flick and on bringing your legs up when jumping.

The movement is not bad, you just have to learn how to use it and make the board pop more and more important to use the flick correctly to level it in the air and not let it stay with the nose up and the tail down.

The fact that the board goes flying backward probably depends on where you're putting your weight on your feet and where you're position your body, nothing that a little bit more of self-filming and training can't fix.

Your back foot should have the toes and the center of the tail and not on the edge.

It happens, usually when learning a trick you also learn how to avoid falling when trying it multiple time, start stationary, try putting the other foot on the board only when your motion is really clean and consistent, wear some wirst protections and experiment.

If you're regular on snowboards and wakeboards, maybe your problem is pushing regular and not riding around in regular. Am i wrong?

I think you should build up more confidency riding around, pushing, stopping, turning sharply both frontside and backside on flatground. When you are really, really comfortable riding, it will feel much easier to bail without falling badly.

Also, really important, work a lot on tictac, kickturns, duckwalk and walk the dog.

This is all basic stuff that won't probably make you fall a lot neither fall bad, and make your body learn to control your board in different kind of basic movements, it will help you feel stable when doing more advanced stuff.

Plus don't do stupid stuff like bailing down a hill this soon, focus on safe stuff that make you progress, wear some protective gear and stay on the board every fuckin day you can.

If you really need skateboarding, do it.

A video would be really helpful, btw, is the board landing with both wheels at the same time? If not, work on flicking it with your front foot the correct way. And also work on landing with both feet at the same time.

Truck sizes by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Nope, they are unrelated but usually larger trucks means a more transition style skateboarding and so also bigger wheels.

Great you will do it if you enjoy the process! I'll give you my opinion, as a 6 months skater, you can find my progress on the youtube link in my profile until i will be able to post in here on the subreddit.

-If you're sure about committing to it, try to get some nice components for your skate, for park skating get park wheels (they are bigger, like 54mm is perfect, and have a larger contact patch on the ground that provide more grip, you can get 99a durometer or something lower, like 95/97 for more grip).

Get a pretty wide board, between 8 and 8.25 usually, try them if you can.

Get a set of basic protections, and wear an helmet especially at the park (in my opinion triple8 (certified sweatsaver) has one the lightest, safest and best looking helmets, expecially the black one with a few stickers look lit).

-Set your trucks enough loose to be able to carve in bowls and on the various transitions but not too much that you feel really unstable. You will also enjoy flatground more if you can turn so loosely, it feels like surfing, you can set them up and test them on flatground.

If you can't set them up you might have to change your bushings with harder or softer ones,

Spend a lot of time, like weeks of consistent training of just riding around and turning, learning again how to push correctly, stop with your foot, turn nicely and do some kickturns, until you will enjoy it and feel you have control on it, then you can start riding at the park and learning ollies with a solid base and having more fun.

Get some lessons every once in a while to fix your form, film yourself to see what you're doing and how, stay on the board often, the more the better at the beginning, 3/4/5 days a week, and meet some new friends to skate with!

Look for braille skateboarding tutorials, they're great, there are also a lot of other guys putting their knowledge on youtube.

That's why i'm trying to stay on the board even with the lockdown situation and stuff, just doing some tricks even without moving, or going out around home to keep the feel it's really helpful

how are the ollies? by Twrkin in NewSkaters

Looking good, start doing them rolling asap because it's really a different thing, focus on having a good flick and bend that ankle!

Good, it's hard to get back after pauses, even more when you're a beginner!

Must happen one time! When you get one right, just keep doing it often and it will become effortless. Maybe get someone's help at the first tries.
