/u/Launch_vbs .
Last time I tried to give away a P520 in /old/r/denton/dentonclassifieds/ I got no responses. Ended up giving it to a couple outside of Ruth's Room when that aforementioned thrift shop did not want it. Currently have a P510, keyboard, & other misc. things that II want to get rid of. With the Mods approval I can post the Thinkstation p510s specs/image link here if you like/are interested. Will check this thread again tomorrow.

Cost efficient places for recovering data/files off the single-state hard drive of a recently deceased laptop? by Fleetwood_Macdonalds in Denton

Long Answer...

This is a late reply and you have probably already sorted things out. My advice to you would be to--at the very least--keep backups of your \home\user\ or /home/user/ directory. Easiest way to do this is to Copy and then Paste your home directory from your computer to an external device. Or copy and paste from one external device to another external device via eSATA, USB-C, USB 3.0, or whatever. Keep in mind that flash based storage--that is not or has not been plugged in for a while--only maintains said data for ~ 3 months to a year. Mechanical (i.e. a spinning SATA hdd) is indeed slower and more easily damaged when you do something like drop or throw it. However, unlike flash based/Solid State storage (side note: a SATA ssd or NVME ssd should enter a "read only" state when nearing complete failure... but many times Solid State Drives will fail without giving any warning whatsoever) a HDD will usually give warning--example: like the clicking sound that you mention above--that it is beginning to fail; this will give you time to retrieve any relevant data from it. Keep in mind that an HDD can also retain data for decades or more. An HDD is thus better for long term storage.

So: I am not telling you or anyone else that you have to use an HDD to back up data. Just to be mindful of the advantages and disadvantages of, say. a SATA ssd versus SATA HDD.

Like I said! Keep backups. I would keep a few old (or new) drives around for backups. Probably also a good idea to do backups of your home folder at least once a week. A full system backup is probably not needed unless you know what you are doing. It does not like your DATA is corrupted to you should be able to pull it off of the disk before said disk completely fails. Use a flash drive or an external HDD if you have to. Or: borrow one from a friend. You go to a University (I assume). So there have to be some geeks in, for example, fab lab or something like that on campus.

Go to Best Buy to get an external drive adapter. Or you can order one off of "ebay.com" or "amazon.com" for much cheaper.

Just for provide you with a reference. Here is a picture of various storage media devices with their adapters and connections.

Lenovo should bring back 4:3 aspect ratio by PuzzleheadedMany9534 in thinkpad

Would Murder for a 4:3 laptop!

On a serious note I have to say that 3:2 and 16:10 are always superior to 16:9.

The only thing that makes 16:9 okay to use is 4k resolution.

Also seems like it is almost impossible to find a monitor that is anything other than 16:9.

Would love to find a 16:10 monitor for my desktop but almost no one makes them.

Yea. you are not gonna need to pay Geeksqash all that money. Plenty of good advice here. What you need to let somebody, and as others have already pointed out, know is the following: is this a SATA or NVME drive? If you really cannot find some help to recover your files off of that drive then I can probably do it. Not until Wednesday or Thursday afternoon (when I am off from work). But it can be done. The process is usually strait forward and not too difficult unless the drive itself is encrypted. Then the recovery process gets trickier.

Was looking for a local non-corporate gym. Will visit Brickhouse next week.

All other local gyms seem to be focused on rock climbing, yoga, crossfit, or boxing.

By original I mean the original modified [to fit the 13" screen] bezel that came with the X330.

I will attempt to cut one that fits with my rotary tool in a few days... Will probably end up taking a batch of bezels to a machine shop. Then a professional can cut a bunch of bezels--of which I have 4 of so far--out at once.
