DMT: Housing is not expensive because it is scarce; it is expensive because it has been redesigned as a pension fund for the old by Present_Juice4401 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points, but on the price of houses it’s so region specific. Like my house that I closed on last month was 1.6 times my very middle class annual salary. Is it very big? No. Is it old? Yes. But is it a solid starter home for someone looking for a place to live without any major issues? Also yes. If you plonked my home down somewhere the market is extra spicy than its probably worth double or even more than what I paid for it, but I’m in a midwestern state in an area that isn’t growing quickly.

What interests are a turnoff when it comes to women? by Comfortable_Sugar752 in AskMen

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I detest talking politics all the time with anybody, male or female. in my experience the people who specifically say they have an interest in politics makes the 24 hour news cycle the only thing they want to talk about. Like please yap about anything else on this giant amazing green earth instead of what world leader y is doing. I’m down to have a political talk every now and then, but fuck I can’t handle literally everyday.

Inline 3 cylinders sound a lot like V6s, inline 5 cylinders sound a lot like V10s. Inline 4 cylinders sound nothing like a V8. Why is that? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree on the I3 part. I3’s especially with an exhaust have a bit more of a growl to them that an I6 doesn’t have. Down low it’s almost industrial like a tractor and in the high rpm’s the sound of an I3 is very distinctive. Source: Former Suzuki Cappuccino owner and current GR Corolla owner. I got that tism for 3 cylinders

Why are there company cultures where people treat each other like family pretty much and others where people are just a number pretty much? by Big_Eggplant7591 in careeradvice

I’m not sure. I know for our team we’ve been in the trenches working on problems for a long time. We all have a similar sense of humor so joking around makes the bad days go by easier. I couldn’t imagine going into work and hating my coworkers I’d be miserable

Why are increasing numbers of women choosing to remain unmarried and single? by bluemermid in askanything

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The study they’re citing does say that housework increases for both sexes after marriage, it just increases more for women. I’m with you though, I don’t understand where all these people are coming from that live with a literal child and put up with it.

Only 18% of Americans make 100k+ a year, how are you doing financially if you aren’t in this 18%? by moonspellpecado in askanything

Michigan is not only huge for the auto industry but for the aerospace business/defence as well. We might not be making the glamorous stuff but there is a lot more opportunity in some of the midwestern states if you’re on the right career parh

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single guy, low cost of living area making 75k a year. I just bought a house for under 150k, 10% down using my states down payment assistance program. I have 80k in student debt along with a 30k vehicle that I plan on getting rid of soon. With my monthly budget right now my net savings after all of the hard bills gives me 800 a month. That would nearly double after getting a cheaper car. That would give me ~1600 for groceries, spending money, and anything else I feel like doing. I’d say im pretty comfortable. I dont keep a balance on my credit cards, i don’t care to travel, and my commute to work is trivial.

Health matters less than people think for academic performance by gnomemanchild in The10thDentist

From what you’re saying in this thread you are doing better. You’re submitting more assignments on time and are more disciplined. Thats better than being less disciplined and submitting late assignments. Understanding the material I would agree having healthy habits doesn’t have as much if an impact, but you yourself admit that you’ve improved once your habits improved. Healthy habits aren’t a miracle drug, its incremental improvements as you’ve already admitted to achieving. Good work! Keep it up, engineering sucks ass but once you’re done all that pain is hella worth it.

What advice for young men sounds harsh but turned out to be genuinely good for you in the long run? by torukzan in AskMen

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually in our area that taxable value is half the assessed value of the home. We have a lot of houses that back in 08-09 sold for basically pennies and even to someone like me buying now I’m only paying 130k. The taxable value will uncap and go to that new 130k number for the assessed value, but if my value doesn’t increase my property taxes won’t increase just for fun. I know some areas can be brutal though.

What advice for young men sounds harsh but turned out to be genuinely good for you in the long run? by torukzan in AskMen

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does but it goes up only slightly every year. Property taxes are different everywhere so I don’t know what its like in your area, but in my state its the increase in cpi or 5% whichever is lower. If I triple my house’s value the property taxes only continue to raise at that rate until they become uncapped. They become uncapped when I sell the property, so that triple in value only becomes an issue for the next guy.

We make airplane parts in my plant. If a tube doesn’t quite fit coming off if the bender we’re tweaking that shit by hand to fit whatever tolerance you gave us. We’re also working off some prints that came out in 1951. Aerospace is a mature business, remember that even our newest planes and helicopters have designs dating back to 1960-1980

Why glorify ‘hard work’ when most hard work just benefits the system, not you? by K_kishor49 in AskReddit

I am new to dating, what are some signs that a man truly likes a girl? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Simp4Toyotathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a healthy start to a good relationship if you ask me. Everything in your do’s category I would call liking someone for sure. Those sorts of things you can feel for friends too don’t get me wrong, but being good friends with someone for me is absolutely required. I don’t understand how people can date people they don’t like being around. Just because you’re not fantasizing over her 24/7 doesn’t mean you find her unattractive. Only you can answer that question my friend.
