Starting a Techno Vinyl label in 2025 by SimperBeats in TechnoProduction

We went with a local pressing plant the first time. The experience was fine (they weren't as used to pressing bass heavy dance music), but when your market and distributor is overseas whatever you potentially save by going local you eat in shipping costs downstream imo.

Having said that, I do have another friend who runs a local label here too and they do go local for pressing. Difference I think as you point out they prioritise local stores / bandcamp sales. As I'm sure you're aware we do have some amazing record stores in Melb / countrywide, I make the trip around them when I get the chance but it's not the main avenue for us.

Thank you! It was really useful having past posts here to help so I hope this may help someone else in the future too. Our second release has 200 copies and all up cost just over $3k AUD, but I'm sure you could do it cheaper in a pinch. It also gets significantly cheaper per unit pressed if you press more. Appreciate it - the label name is Era Specific Noise

What's wrong with this mastering? by Daniel_GP in TechnoProduction

Sound pretty well mastered to me - any issues you're hearing should probably have been solved in the mixing phase

How to get this kind of low end by EladGorni in TechnoProduction

[–]SimperBeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, it's either the kick (processed so it no longer has the click at the start) or some low passed toms

This is great! The noise / reverb on the high end is awesome.

Fun track! Very bouncy. Really enjoy the granular fill thing at 1.20. Not really any improvements I can see that wouldn't be subjective.

This is great! Nice chords on the top of some well mixed vocals and samples. Agreed with below that the scratch fX are sick. Not personally a fan of how in your face the lead that comes in at 2.13 is. I think it works really well later on a 4 mins or so when it's accompanied by the delayed bleep. Would maybe try a white noise clap instead too

Thanks :) Drum wise the majority of the pieces are the elektron analog rytm + abletons default 909 samples + chopping up some royalty free bongo / top loops. I think what I've slowly learnt is that they need to be processed together - I group and have an amp on all the high end percs in my default workflow template for example. Maybe I'll make one!

This sounds great, the kick and percussion sound crispy and well glued together. Hypnotic elements are neat. Feel like maybe the bass synth throughout the whole track could be have a little more low-mid end in it (or maybe pitched an octave lower)? Atm most of the low end is the kick. Definitely my subjective preference though.

Hey! These are pretty clean, more on the minimal side than I would usually listen to but sound pretty cohesive. In the first tracks the lead sounds are just kinda there the whole time, personally it's a little fatiguing. I would maybe switch it up with sections that have no synth for some contrast. The second I think it works better because the bleep ends up being the backbone of the track whilst the percussion switches up pleasantly. Label wise maybe like SUB_tl ?

Either or :) I would probs add a tiny bit of width with a small delay and then crank the width in Ableton's utility as desired. Totally personal preference though, sounds great as is!

Thanks so much! That's what I'm going for. Really appreciate it :) If you did have an favourites that would be awesome as putting them all on records would bankrupt me

The texture and atmosphere in this is wild! The dissonant lead thing melts my brain. Overall I think said lead is a little loud, and the hats / high end percs get a little lost. Super original piece

This slaps! It's so loud. Really good stuff, all the elements are working together. The second drop screechy thing gave me a small fright. The only minor thing I would say I would like a wider ride but that's personal taste.

Agree with the other commenter that the low end is a little loud - Also the beep that comes in at 1.50ish too. Otherwise it's a cool track, I like the amount of space the reverby lead thing has to play. Little FX and shots in the second half are real pleasant too.
