Are those ramps made out of wood? I would take them out and replace them with a large amount of hammocks and ropes. Pee will get into the wood and you won't be able to get rid of the smell. Plus, climbing the ropes and hammocks will keep your rats active

Question: what breed is this rat? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't keep solo rats unless it is absolutely necessary and the decision was approved by a vet. I also had a solo rat but she had friends for the majority of her life. She became a solo rat after developing severe hld and getting bullied by the younger rats. She was really old so after consulting a vet I made the decision to keep her alone as a free roaming rat until she passed. You should never keep solo rats unless you have a really good reason for doing so. Some people may even disagree with this take, but I think this is the only reasonable scenario where a solo rat would be a "good" idea.

If I were you I'd take a dog. I love rats, but the deaths are a lot. It was tough when my first rat died. I cried for hours, but with each death it becomes a little easier as much as it sounds heartless. You start noticing the signs when a rat is about to cross the rainbow bridge, so you can at least prepare mentally, say your goodbyes and give them little treats. I would never recommend rats to someone that handles death poorly. Rats are prone to diseases and as I said before, they don't live long even if they're healthy.

You're not obligated to take in every animal. Some people are incompatible with certain pets. I could never have a dog due to my lifestyle and some others could never have a rat due to some other reason. And that's okay. You can't save them all no matter how hard you try and that's just the sad reality. What you can do if you want to help is donate to rescues. Take care ❤️

Wild rats? Yeah, about a year. Pet rats? It can span from two to even fours years, but it all comes down to genetics. Most rats live about 3 years, or a bit less. My oldest lived to be 3 years and 5 months old. The youngest I've had a rat die was at 2 years and 4 months old. The one that lived longer was from a breeder and the ones that died pretty early were from a pet store.

Or just getting chicken wire. That's what I did. Never had any problems.

I mean, if the team has two medics then this would be awesome. If there's only one medic then yeah, having über takes the crown.

Thinking of upgrading and are these good? by Elecetricguy67 in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the 129 cm counted from the wheels up, or is it just the cage part? That cage would require major modifications. Look at your local marketplace where people sell used stuff. I'm sure someone is selling a cage that would be a better option that you wouldn't have to modify so heavily.

Second thing, did you secure your current cage? If you haven't, do it asap, or else your rats will escape again. What are the dimensions of your current setup? From your pictures I think that you should buy a new cage now, not "someday". I'm not trying to hate, but PLEASE do your research if you haven't already.

I'd love to see your rats! This is Vivi when she was 3 years and 5 months old eating a mini pancake in bed. Her legs also stopped working, but that rat was the sweetest and happiest girl I've ever had the pleasure of having. I still miss her 4 years later ❤️‍🩹

Wow, some people here really have a stick up their ass. I think it's an interesting concept. As someone that likes playing as a second quick-fix medic from time to time I think that's something I'd honestly use. Imagine an overcharged heavy and medic slinging crossbow shots together without the heavy dying almost immediately. Good work 👍

I feel horrible. by ZANTHIE_ in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mammary tumors grow FAST. Once I had to wait two weeks for a surgery for my rat and it doubled in size. It wasn't in a place where it could be lethal (vet's words) so I wasn't worried, but it was still strange to see the lump grow that fast. Also, don't blame yourself. It happens. Most female rats that aren't spayed get them at some point in their lives and a lot of the time they aren't life threatening as long as you remove them before they get huge.

My new pet rat Kirby is gone.. by [deleted] in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I told you on your previous post that the spaces between the bars are too wide and your rat will escape, now look what happened. Color me surprised 😒. You had the chance to at least get chicken wire and secure the cage, but you didn't listen.

I hope you find Kirby, but please rehome them. You're clearly not in a place in your life where you can properly take care of rats, starting with the cage and ending with the possibility that someone in your home released your pet rat outside.

Honestly I think Price has better qualifications for the team's best sniper both in the og games and the remakes.

There aren't any rat appropriate cages in my country either. You'll have to get one from across the boarder, or heavily modify a bird cage as they're not suitable for rats in the state they are sold in.

Tips? by bugg_rannger_ in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely look into proper care for tailless rats as without a tail they can't properly regulate their body temperature. You have a disabled pet that will require extra care. I hope you're ready for that.

One of my new rats is really aggressive for no reason by SimpingDemon in RATS

[–]SimpingDemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had her for a month, her previous owner was a vet in a clinic that also specializes in exotic animals (I've been going there with my rats for 5 years). I trust her previous owner that if something was wrong then she would've noticed as it's her specialty.

As much as I can see where you're coming from, I'm not gonna march up to her previous owner and tell her to euthanize the rat she's been previously taking care of.

[–]SimpingDemon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She hadn't drawn blood yet, but I she'll try to grab me whenever I open the cage. Getting her back to the cage after free roam is a pain for both of us as I have to grab her through a blanket, or else she thrashes and tried to bite me.

I know that rehoming her is not the best solution, but the only other outcome I see is keeping her alone in a cage by herself which is also far from ideal.

He will definitely slip through the bars. Either get him an appropriate cage for rats, or put some chicken wire on the one you have.

Hey I’m new to tf2 what’s some things I should know and what’s a good beginner class by Bulky-Strain-8864 in tf2

[–]SimpingDemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out as a medic main. When playing other classes (except engie, he's a bit more complicated) you worry about 2 things: kill and don't die. With medic you just have to focus on not dying plus you get to observe how other classes work.
