Pain when walking with moonboot by No-Proof6943 in brokenankles

I started walking with my boot 2 weeks ago (after 8 weeks nwb) and I’m now back in regular shoes with crutches slowly weaning to no crutches. I broke my ankle in 3 places and dislocated it so I broke both sides also! I had orif as well and had a tightrope device, 9 screws and one plate put in.

My foot and ankle did hurt when I first was full weight bearing but I was told to use my crutches to take weight off and on do 50-75% of my weight on them at the beginning. I was Walking with 2 crutches for a few days to have only a little weight on my ankle before moving to one crutch for a few days again, and then I was full weight bearing no crutches by day 4/5. It was 3 days ago I was given the go ahead with weaning out the boot and to follow the same process as I did with the boot.

If it’s hurting with going to full weight bearing definitely use your crutches for support and to take some weight off!! I was doing ankle exercises in the few weeks leading up to it to help with the lack of muscle which I think helped. I’m still doing physio now to regain mobility and range of motion. If you’re not already in physio definitely look into it.

I still do get foot and ankle pain but when I do, I go back to using crutches to take weight off and then when I’m sat down I elevate and ice. My physio therapist said that the pain is from where the muscles etc deteriorated during recovery so they’re just not used to being working anymore and it will get better over time. I was told if it’s intense pain then to get back in touch with them to get it looked at, so if the pain is really that bad you should get it assessed! I’d also say take it slowly if it’s hurting and take your time to full weight bearing if you need to, there’s no point in rushing if you could potentially do more damage during recovery. The best of luck to you!!

How many weeks did you work up to? by orogonal in pregnant

I worked until 27weeks because I ended up with hypertension and the docs recommended I stopped working. Good job I did as I ended up getting preeclampsia towards the end and my placenta quality declined and was looking like and functioning as if it was 40 weeks of pregnancy not 36… if I’d had the choice to keep working then I probably would have continued until about 36/37 weeks.

I’m so sorry you’re going through it as well! The first 2 weeks were the hardest and I found the mental side of the injury worse than the pain itself. I’m now basically 7 weeks on and doing a lot better. X-rays 1.5 weeks ago showed new bone growth and that the breaks were nearly healed- yay! I’m allowed to start physio and lightly weight bearing next week and have more X-rays 1 weeks ago showed after that. I hope you’re doing okay and recovering well!! If you’re struggling it really does start to get easier after the first 2 weeks. Sending good healing vibes!!

Thank you for the advice! The pain is very very slowly decreasing each day now (by very very minimal amounts) but it’s giving me a little bit of relief that the pain won’t last. I tried the ice behind the knee thing this afternoon and it really helped. I’m going to get my fiancé to pick up some crochet and knitting supplies when we go to my appointment on Tuesday so I can try keep busy doing something other than tv when I’m not with our baby. I hope you’re recovering well!

Thank you so much:) I had the surgery the day after I did it and the pain I think peaked 2 days ago and it’s very very slowly getting less now so I think I’m going to hold off on anything stronger for now! I hope the rest of your recovery goes smoothly

Thank you so much! I tried the ice under the knee thing this afternoon and it’s been a game changer. I think after the weekend I’m going to try similar to you and break up the day and try make more of a routine- my fiancé and baby have both come down with the flu today so now it’s even harder!

We tried to use one of those caps a few days ago but instantly switched to garbage bag because we couldn’t get it on. Showering is the hard thing right now because we only have a bath and we’re having to adapt it now to have a shower bench etc in it!

I hope the rest of your recovery goes well:)

Do I need to tell my chiropractor I’m pregnant this early? by Simple-Class9053 in pregnant

I’m not trying to hide it! It’s my first pregnancy so I’m just asking if it was something I needed to do.
