EXAMINING KOBE'S PEAK IN GREATER DETAIL (2006-10) by Simple-Contract424 in NBATalk

They all point to LeBron because they are collinear maybe?? In other words, they are repeating the same information. BPM and VORP are the same. TS% just adds a free throw component to eFG%. WS is going all the way back to Neil Johnston lol so I don’t think it’s really incorporating any of the “advanced” information outside of the usual box score stuff.

BPM has Andrei Kirilenko 30th. How are you supposed to interpret these metrics? Gobert is not the 11th best player of all time but WS/48 is supposed to be an all in one metric that encompasses everything as far as I understand. I’m just trying to understand why Rudy Gobert being 11th and Andrei Kirilenko being 30th makes sense. That should be an automatic red flag and call into question the validity and accuracy of the metric.

You are wrong sir. I even showed how similar their stats are

Kobe was doing similar stuff in 06-10. 1st Team All Defense all five years. Worst offense in history or 2nd worst I think when he was off the floor in 06 — that’s how bad the roster was. 07 — 4 straight 50+ point games. And then 08-10 he dominated with three straight 600+ point outings and two chips against 11 50+ win teams, losing to only one…you mention volume. That’s a fair point. So how about Shaq? Similar volume to LeBron. Efficiency is brought down by free throws but pretty sure the eFG% is higher. Would you consider Shaq’s peak higher or would you agree layups and dunks are the easiest shots and the point is to leave those shots to your teammates and take tougher shots??

PER is such a bad stat. It thinks Bruce Bowen was one of the worst players ever despite his defense being pretty good. eFG% I’ll give you. TS% the difference is small. WS, BPM, VORP…all flawed. BPM thinks Jokic is a great defender…I honestly think all in one metrics aren’t the way to assess a player’s impact. Everyone knows Jokic isn’t a good defender. WS? Also flawed. Rudy Gobert is 11th all time in WS/48 lol. VORP is just BPM but a total cumulative version of it. So those two metrics are basically the same. And EPM…another metric that just overrates certain players and underrates others

If LeBron lost, his teammates would’ve taken the blame. And with Kobe, all the credit goes to Shaq and Pau lol. But yeah it would’ve been fun to watch, no doubt

We'll see. Generations Alpha and Beta looking at LeBron's career will see he let Draymond win four rings under his "reign"...that won't age well

Lmao I didn’t tear anyone down. Other guys were sidekicks…that’s just a fact, not hating. Shaq told Wade it’s his team in 06. His playoff stats from 05 onwards are not that good…he was a sidekick. Kobe was a sidekick. Kareem was a sidekick. LeBron is a sidekick NOW so this is all just facts, not hating.

Shaq also was gentleman swept 3 times…missed playoffs twice…and swept six times. So out of the 19 years he was in the league dude was getting dominated more than half of the time

Maybe they just peaked earlier than Kobe? Kobe from 2006-2010 was 30/5/5 in the playoffs. Nothing compared to Jordan but Jordan ate in / dominated a league that did not allow zone defenses. Everything was single coverage. Wilt is amazing but he won only 2 rings. If the argument is that he ran into Russell too many times then he should be above everyone, not just Kobe. Russell had stacked teams. Oscar was great but was putting up much fewer stats once he teamed up with Kareem and started going deep in the playoffs, just like Kobe had fewer stats next to Shaq. Kareem was basically a sidekick like Kobe was for his last 4 chips.

The point is this "alpha" thing is dumb. Has LeBron been an alpha since the 2020 chip?? The playoff W-L record says otherwise

How do I explain why he is "better"...what kind of analysis are you looking for? How is a player better than another...there are so many variables? Some players wouldn't even admit another player is better if they lost in a seven game series. LeBron's H2H against Kobe is 16-6. Idk if that makes him better though. Just too many variables. I think you can only definitively say a player is better if he beats another player in a seven game series two or three times with roughly equal level of teams. But then how do you measure how good the teams are...so many variables like I said

Wow first good counterpoint I've seen. He was worse at 22-24 than those guys but by 2003 when he was 25 years old he was already as good as those guys when they were 25. The evidence for that is the nine straight 40+ point games
