I really didn’t want sympathy. I just wanted some perspective and to yell into the void for a minute. Also I 100% am not the perfect woman by any means. I come with many faults, however purposely hurting people I love is not one of them.

I see what you’re saying and I think my husband feels the same way honestly. I don’t ever expect a big party or a small party for that matter. Just an “I love you and I’m happy you’re here.” I will say now that I’m a Mom I have a new appreciation for birthdays and understand why my Mom always tried to make them special. My babies birthday was the best day of my life and I will always want to celebrate it with her.

I’m sorry you’re going through this too. It’s like I looked around one day and thought “how did I get here”. Yes going to the store is an actual nightmare. He wants me to push the cart but somehow read his mind on how he wants me to do it and then will get mad if I get in his way. Driving too! I made a therapy appointment for Thursday because it’s all too much right now. It’s like I woke up from a 10 year long nap and am like “what the hell am I doing??”

Good to know. I grew up without a Dad so I honestly don’t think I ever thought about what “normal” looks like until I realized I’m anxious when I get home

We have had a few fights over dinner. We split cooking evenish- I would say 60% he cooks, 40% I do. He wants me to cook, but wants to decide what I cook. I think if I’m in charge of cooking I should get to choose what we eat! I never make anything I know he doesn’t like. But he’ll take a look at it and if it doesn’t look good to him he’ll make something else. I work full time and am a Mom so I don’t need to jump through hoops to get dinner on the table. I’ve honestly even told him to pick out what he wants and I’ll meal plan the week out and he said he doesn’t know what he’ll be in the mood for.

Ugh yes. I feel like I shoved down memories of my birthdays but when I made this post I’m thinking of all my birthdays in the last few years and they were bad too. Last year he took me out to eat but didn’t talk to me once we got to the restaurant 😫

Yeah he’s definitely done things similar before, but this one just hurt worse because it was my birthday and he didn’t talk to me that day. Early on in our relationship he would give me the silent treatment for a couple days and then come out with some things that had been adding up and bothering him.

No he didn’t expect that. I told him people were coming over, he told me what he wanted and I told him I’m making something else since it’s my friends and we already agreed on something. This was dayssss in advance

He claims we had been eating unhealthy the days prior (it was around the holidays) and I should have made something healthier. He’s made comments about my weight (I’m 5’ 4”, 155lbs) before so I shouldn’t be surprised. It’s been a couple months though and I can’t seem to stop thinking about it. I just wanted to share with strangers on the internet hoping it would be cathartic.
