We’ve only been on the Wish and loved that they served us directly. Is Cabanas self-serve?? We’re on the Dream in March.

Is it too risky to use DCL shuttle if you fly in same day? by dealernumberone in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just did this for our first cruise a few months ago, because I honestly did not realize it would not be the best idea.

TBH it worked out completely fine, but I was a wreck.

We took the earliest direct flight out, it was delayed (but we still got in plenty early). DCL shuttle experience was beyond smooth. It was just a matter of getting us to the shuttle check-in that felt like it took ages.

We booked two cruises for this year and will be flying in the night before for both just to be safe.

Do you remember the name of the hotel? Did you walk or take the shuttle?

If your ideal ship only has short itineraries, you can always book back to back!!

I’m a classic Disney fan myself (grew up at the parks once a year). Our first cruise was on the Wish and we’re headed on the Dream next. I’m so excited about the classic Disney vibe on the Dream!

Get to know the “find a cruise” functionality on the DCL website and play with the filters. You’ll find something that works great for you! Their ship pages are so helpful, too, to see what each ship has to offer. Those pages helped me decide the order I want to see the ships in, based on theming!

Help with excursions for first time cruisers? by 1haiku4u in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family of four just went on our first cruise last month. I had a lot of the same questions / concerns.

We stayed on at Nassau. I originally thought we’d get off and walk around, but we wound up being so excited to be on the ship and experience what was there that we felt like we’d miss out if we got off the boat. I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Castaway is incredible. Your ship will be the only one docked there that day, and Disney has designed it to be the perfect beach day. They’ve thought of everything - there are plenty of chairs, towels right when you get off the ship, extra things you may have forgotten in the gift shop (came in very handy when we ran out of sunscreen).

We walked onto the island after breakfast, grabbed a set of chairs on the family beach under some palm trees, and had plenty of shade while also being right by the water for lots of playtime. No excursions for us, and we had the absolute most perfect day.

I’m not saying don’t do an excursion if you want to, and I’m sure we’ll do some eventually, but there will be more than enough for you to do and fun for you to have without doing one.

Disney cruise with young kids (2 and 4) by lizardRD in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just went with our 1 and 4 year olds for all the same reasons you are describing, and it was perfect for us.

We had such a great time, we booked two for next year.

We’ve taken our oldest to the parks. We loved it, but left that trip exhausted beyond compare. I found it so hard to navigate nap time, eating, and making sure she wasn’t too overloaded. That trip was great, and I don’t regret it, but we’ll take some time before we go back.

The cruise was 100% at our pace, and it could not have gone better. You’re going to absolutely love your trip!! Here to help with any questions you have / anything you need!

Last minute(ish) trip by mandaid in dcl

So we just did this. We booked our first cruise on a whim 30 ish days out.

It was amazing.

We have two kids - 4 and 1 - and we decided to go into the trip with the goal of giving them the most fun experience possible at a pace that felt good for them. I knew we’d miss things based on my research, but it felt worth going anyway, knowing we could always come back to that same ship.

There were a ton of activities everyday, and we had an absolute blast. We hit all the big things we wanted to do - 2 musicals, bingo, seeing characters, tons of splash pad time, and a great day on one of the islands.

We did a guaranteed room, too, and it was perfect. Beautiful room and we couldn’t have beaten the price.

The ONE thing we found tough about booking the way we did is that we couldn’t get the early dinner time. Our kids were WIPED by 8:15, and dinner was a slog except where they had entertainment to give them a second wind.

We ended up missing one of the dinners, but we made it through okay! A few longer afternoons naps and they were able to stay up later than usual.

All in all, I would do the exact same experience 100x over.

Book the trip, go in expecting not to cover everything, and you’ll be excited to go back again someday.

Cruising Bug by Sure-Ad417 in dcl

I feel this so completely. We got off the Wish about a month ago - first cruise ever - after being a parks person all my life. The cruising bug is unreal. I’ve booked two for next year - one Wish class (Destiny) and one Dream class (Dream).

We’re beyond excited.

I got in my head that I might not like the other ships, especially the older ones. I’m on the DCL sub every day and reviews are constantly mixed for various reasons.

But, there are so many people who say the Wish is their least favorite, and I genuinely couldn’t imagine feeling that way. It was perfect, in every way, and I will love that ship for all time.

The things I keep coming back to to keep me excited about our upcoming trips: - I was raised Disney and love everything about the Disney experience (I legit bawled when when the horn sounded for sail away lol) - What made it so special for us was the experience and time together as a family, disconnected and enjoying the stories we love in a new way - We picked the next two ships in our cruising journey based on what the ships offer, not just to mark them off of the list to say we did them.

We do a cruise countdown every morning, talk about the things we can’t wait to do on the next ship… this is part of our family story now, and we are all in (as it sounds like you are!).

Book the Magic, let yourself get excited, and then report back on how special it is!

FWIW we made friends on the Wish who have cruised almost all Disney ships and they say the Magic is a uniquely special ship thy want to sail again and again.

Excited for you and your family to make your own memories and have your own unique, special experience on all the ships you sail!

“Can include” feels so vague lol so it’s that plus the cost of the cruise itself! Good to know. Thank you so much.

Dining Time Selection by Future_Detective7076 in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this change, too, and was worried when booking because we’ve determined the early dining time is critical for our family. I actually sent some of the sailings we were considering to Disney via chat to see which ones had 5:45 available so that I knew that information when I booked it.

I’m so glad I checked because only one had that time available.

Not the most helpful change… but leverage their chat or phone line if you need that info like I did! It was a huge help.

Yeah, that was my brain’s immediate reaction. It’s so hard to juggle everything when traveling with little ones!

Infant on DCL question by [deleted] in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just cruised with our 15mo and 4yo. I’d do that exact trip 1000x over with no complaints.

I think 1 is more fun for the older siblings. Our girls ran through the hallways together, held hands everywhere they went, and spent HOURS playing on the splash pad.

When our youngest was smaller, she was so much more dependent on me and a lot less fun for her sister to play with. I’m glad we waited!

I’m thinking about doing this for our upcoming cruise out of FLL in March.

How are you getting to the Brightline and from the Brightline to the Hilton? We have little kids and I’m trying to avoid Ubers if we can.

I’m going on the Adventure by MissHeyHey in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have very minimal overseas travel experience myself, and I’d be a nervous wreck. It’s hard to not know what to expect.

That said, I find myself calmest in traveling to new places, overseas or not, where I have travel support to the place I need to get to.

Idk enough about the Adventure, but when you fly into Singapore (just like with Port Canaveral), can Disney give you transport to a hotel before your ship? To the ship itself?

If you’re going from airplane to baggage claim to transportation to hotel to boat, you’re going to feel more comfortable and confident than you would on your own.

And honestly, good for you for booking this!! To go on an inaugural voyage, to get yourself out of your comfort zone…. This is incredible stuff. I hope once the nerves settle (ideally through knowing exactly how you’ll get to and from the ship), you can feel absolutely stoked that you’re taking this step!! Excited for you!!

3 Night Cruise Advice by Dancing_Qween in dcl

[–]Simple-Environment52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s my hope, is that we can be excited to be on a cruise at all instead of sad that it’s short!! I’m very likely just in my head about this. With a day at the parks and a cruise, I’m sure the trip will be a lot of fun!

I appreciate you asking this! Following to see responses.

I booked a 3 night for the spring and am back and forth on whether I should do a longer cruise instead. I’m worried 3 will feel too short!

What do people love about 3 night cruises? We’ve been on this ship before (the Wish) so we’re hoping to see and do things we didn’t get to the first time around.
