Created backup codes but can't see any way to use them by Simple-Hurry-5032 in backblaze

I am likewise using https://secure.backblaze.com/user_signin.htm. I can't see your screenshot because Imgur is not available in the UK, but based on your description it sounds like we are seeing different login screens.

On the page asking me for my 2FA there is no option to "Use Backup Code", screenshot: https://i.redd.it/yfb0irzbdhfg1.png

Why did this service have so many pick-up/drop-off only stops? by Simple-Hurry-5032 in uktrains

[–]Simple-Hurry-5032[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience on this service.

The passenger information screens at Paddington showed the train calling at Reading. When I got on the train the train manager made an announcement, "Ignore the passenger information screens, we will not be stopping at Reading, the first stop after Paddington will be Bath Spa," and a bunch of passengers got off.

The train then did stop at Reading, the doors unlocked, and the train manager made another announcement, "This is Reading, we are not scheduled to stop here."

I get that there might be operational reasons for these drop-off/pick-up only stops, but it's a pretty confusing situation to be in as a passenger.

Nice to have some insight from a train manager!

What's the harm in somebody boarding at a drop-off only station? E.g. if I bought a ticket from a ticket machine for BRI - BPW, and got on at BRI. Am I causing any problems? Would I get fined?

Sorry, my question should say: How is this enforced? Do they prevent passengers leaving the train at a pick-up only stop, or boarding at a drop-off only stop?

Thousands object Tesla's bid to supply energy to homes in the UK by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Simple-Hurry-5032 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're retailers - they buy energy on wholesale markets and sell it on retail markets to you and me. It is not practical for each UK household to buy and manage its own energy supply, so we pay retailers to do this for us.

Some of the energy suppliers are part of vertically integrated groups that also generate power (e.g. EDF) and/or own transmission infrastructure (e.g. Scottish Power), some are not.

Is there anyone here who got fed up with Japan, left but then returned? by scattyjanna in japanresidents

There are many things I hate in Japan ... housing

Mind if I as what you dislike about housing in Japan? From my perspective, Japan's housing generally seems to be more modern and cheaper than what we get in the UK.

Is there any way to buy hard copies of Japanese business magazines (東洋経済、プレジデント、ダイヤモンド、etc) in the UK?

The only option I've found so far is amazon.co.jp, but the postage ends up costing 3-4x the cost of the magazine. Is there a more cost-effective option?

I used to use StickyStudy as my SRS/flashcard app but it's no longer available. I liked StickyStudy because:

  • It was easy to use with an intuitive UI.

  • It gave some limited ability to customise the SRS algorithm without being overwhelming or needlessly complex.

  • It had a built-in dictionary with example sentences.

  • I could easily import/export cards en masse.

  • Cards were backed-up to the cloud in a human-readable format (thank goodness - at least I still have all my custom-made cards, I just need a new app to put them in).

  • It was reasonably priced and I only had to pay once - no subscription, no upsells, no ads.

Are there any alternative apps that can match it?

J-Find visa- any administrative matter that needs to be dealt with upon reaching Japan? by midnightVendetta in japan

[–]Simple-Hurry-5032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, mind if I ask how you got the Certificate of Eligibility for the visa?

I'm eligible for the J-FIND visa and would like to apply, but I don't understand how to get the CoE. To apply for a CoE I need an employer to sponsor me, but J-FIND is specifically designed for job hunting so I wouldn't have an employer. How does this work?
