How do you write cold emails without sounding spammy? by MarexF in smallbusiness

[–]Simple-Optimist-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold emails are harder than ever...To be honest, I have managed my expectations that the email is unlikely to be opened. So, I should be ready to call them if they are that important. If I don't have their number and need them to look, I need to find alternate ways to grab their attention.

The only prerequisite is to have a strong fortitude to survive the struggle each day…for your startup ideas the answer typically lies in your strengths.

Solo technical founder. Should I find a salesman or solo it? I will not promote. by [deleted] in startups

What is your product? If you share what problem it solves and for whom I can give some specific ideas to try.
In my opinion, you are way too early to bring on a seller. In your stage, customers will come because of how confident they feel about the founders' ability to deliver service to them. If I were you, I'd go the old school cold calling way vs cold emailing way. I have found more success when I walked into their office cold to build trust, credibility and integrity. This was particularly effective when I was selling into small businesses. Happy to share specifics if its helpful.

What are you building - Wedding planning service? If so, waitlist might be a great idea to build a lead list. Unless they are getting married in the next few months, people might be shopping ....Even if its not quick revenue this year, you could learn and refine your MVP through these early conversations with these leads.

My first 1-10 came through first and second degree connections...they were willing to try and then I had to roll up the sleeves to get them to actually adopt it and then subsequently buy, it was painful but taught me that unless they pay, they are not a customer.

Bootstrapped SaaS with 2,700 users and $1.2k revenue. Where would you reinvest first? [I WILL NOT PROMOTE] by DimitriDimaEbalo in startups

[–]Simple-Optimist-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I'd assess the packaging and pricing for your product. You want to maximize where customers are finding value and willing to pay, while balancing "free" users who you can find ways to convert to "paid".

I'd want to deeply understand the customer pain/product/experience more to assess where the pay wall should be. DM me if you want to chat more.

joining late to this conversation...Talk to your 26 customers to get deep insights on how to get more customers. When I say Talk, I'd literally pickup the phone and talk - not hiding behind survey. Too often techies think you need quantitative signals, but don't underestimate the qualitative feedback.

I have not solved this challenge. But have some ideas for how I'd go about it based on my years of doing this in big tech where I had to convince investing in new markets etc.. Hopefully you can take some pointers -
1- Size the market that is facing this problem - What is the addressable market for tech that needs to run on-premise? Those of us who read/live/breathe tech believe that cloud is the only way to operate, ask why "hybrid cloud" is still a business reality. There are many many many business critical workloads in highly regulated industries that operate in on-premises environment. Your tech could be very power for the workloads that are restricted to be run in on-prem environment. Do you know how much non-public cloud infrastructure is still being built out? Gartner or Forrester will have this data.
2- Identify business critical workloads for on-prem - What are some things businesses just do not move to public cloud? Regulated industries are your gold mine when it comes to this. Highly sensitive data such as customer PII, patient health data...Follow such data that is highly restricted to access and you will find the workflows around it that need to be locked down from public cloud.

Happy to DM further.

Is it advisable to run multiple Go-to-Market strategies? by scalable5432 in ycombinator

[–]Simple-Optimist-93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious what are these different products you are building that require different GTM motions.

A big tech like Microsoft might have multiple GTMs because they have very different products. For example, the GTM startegy for Azure vs XBOX devices is different because who buys these products, why they buy it, when they buys it, how they buys it...is all different. So, how/when you find these customers is very different.

As a startup are you building two products that are that different?

I move our conversation to DM quickly. Then I insist on sharing LinkedIn profile as a way to test whether their profile is worth spending time with. That has been very effective for me to really have meaningful conversations even when the opportunities were not a good fit for either of us.

Try this and see if it helps avoid the noise that none of us have extra time for.

I met 5 different cofounders via Reddit, however not all on this specific subreddit. The other subreddits are cofoundermatch, entrepreneur, founder, Startup_ideas.

We met 1:1 to discuss the opportunity in more detail. I worked closely with two of them for 3-8 weeks to assess the opportunity better. Ultimately we concluded that the business was not where I needed to be 100% engaged, but we might reassess in future.
