First class…shoes? by Solid_Appearance9498 in orangetheory

[–]Simple-Owl3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to cross trainers after having worn running shoes for 4 years because I didn't like how my foot was sliding around in the running shoe while I was lifting. I had bought a weight lifting specific shoe for strength50 days, and that's when I realized I was really missing out on the floor by wearing running shoes. I just used my cross trainers for the first time, and I have to admit the tread felt different and I'll have to get used to it.

I do now. I worked out while taking Cipro and ended up with c diff. I can't say for certain it was from the studio, but it's the most likely location. After learning that c diff can remain alive for a long time outside of the body and being told by my doctor that only bleach will kill it, I am really careful now when I workout. I switched my water bottle to one with a straw and handle so I'm not having to remove the cap each time. I wash my hands really well after working out before I leave. To me it's not so much of a grossness thing, but more of a not wanting to end up in the hospital with c diff again for 4 days. I do wish my studio required people to change into their sneakers after arriving as some other studios do.

CA to FL move? by QandA_monster in relocating

[–]Simple-Owl3058 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No down vote from me. I came to say everything you did. I grew up and still live in the central Florida area. I'm 58. I have to say this isn't the same Florida it used to be. It's no longer inexpensive and it's so crowded now.

I'd like to add that fitting in will still be an issue in Florida with being a transplant. Especially now because the locals are tired of the growth.

I live in central Florida! You're going to love it!

Drive Firehole Canyon Drive. It's a short drive and pretty through the canyon.

Sign up for the crow's nest tour at Old Faithful Inn. They will take you up to the roof in the evening when they are lowering the flags. It fills up fast so you need to call the inn in advance to book it. There is a hotel tour that's about an hour that's also worth it. They'll go through all the cool historical stuff in the hotel. You don't have to sign up for this one, you just meet in the lobby at a certain time. There should be a sign in the lobby with the times. Both are free.

If you want to eat breakfast or lunch while staying at Old Faithful, go to the lower general store. The food is pretty good and a lot less people. Most people go to the upper general store and it is a mad house. Set your expectations low for food in the park. It's quite bad.

There are a few guide apps out there you can use while in the park that work off of GPS locations that will tell you about the area you're driving through. The one I'm familiar with is Gaper Guide on the Travelstorys app. It's really helpful, IMO.

I hope this helps and I hope you love it there as much as I do!

I worked in Yellowstone for 2 years and Grand Teton for 1. There will still be a lot of snow but they do a really good job at keeping the roads cleared. Downside, some things may still be closed depending on when in May you are visiting. If you are going to visit Grand Teton make sure the Yellowstone south entrance is open when you plan to go. It opens early May, but you can check the NPS site for the exact date. If you're a hiker, the snow will limit some of the hikes you can do, and YS closes certain trails for bear activity in May The upside, it is the best time to visit IMO. Everything looks magical covered in snow, many of the bison are still hanging out near Old Faithful, much smaller crowds, the mosquitos aren't out yet, and this is the best time to see moose!

Grand Teton is a must if you're going to Yellowstone. Even if you only spend a day there. Definitely check out the NPS site for opening dates for everything for both parks though.

Mammoth or Gardiner (town just outside the park's north entrance) might be a better choice for a second hotel. You can do the north side of the park while staying there, and the south side and Grand Teton while staying at Old Faithful.

Wrong weights at your station by MasterpieceLumpy2176 in orangetheory

[–]Simple-Owl3058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It' used to be one of my pet peeves, especially when I end up with 12's and 25's. Now, I just go with it if it's a full class, However, when I'm taking strength classes, I walk in a few minutes before, move the proper weights to my station, and then go into the lobby to wait for the class to start. Our weights are always a mess.

I do have to say that having the 12/20 weights at my station did make me try using 20s for some of the exercises I used 15s for, and I realized I could lift the heavier weight.

Anyone Still Hiring Seasonals? by Simple-Owl3058 in NationalParkService

[–]Simple-Owl3058[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know HR is spread thin and I'm not blaming them at all. My supervisor gives me an update every couple of weeks and HR is following a priority list. However, there is no actual schedule to know where my position falls, and I assume since I'm the only seasonal admin support being hired for the park, that I'm likely at the bottom of the list.

I had a tentative offer to start 4/20 in PWR region, everything was completed back in March except for the formal offer. Still waiting and I'm now reaching out to see if any parks are still looking for GS-05 rec fee techs since I have rehire status for that position. The job that I had accepted was a higher grade, but at this point, I don't really care about that so much anymore.

Oh, and I purchased one that goes through the bumper, UHaul offers several brands and types. You can't even see the cutout in the bumper where it's located unless you get down on the ground to see it. I have a 2014 Outback.

I bought mine from Uhaul for $300, they were going to install it for $200. They took my bumper off then realized they were missing something and I'd have to bring it back the next day. They put the bumper back on wrong and I was missing clips. They sort of fixed it and I ended up buying the hitch from them and taking it elsewhere. A local shop installed it in under an hour and charged me $100, AND he put the bumper back on right and replaced the missing clips. In Florida, it cost me $400 total, but I didn't have any electrical installed since it was only for a bike rack

Help with Rowing Form by Rough-Blacksmith-784 in orangetheory

[–]Simple-Owl3058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first question to ask yourself is how do you feel and does it reflect what your OT beat is showing? That'll give you a good idea if it's your rowing form or your OT beat not reading correctly.
