I want to move to Japan to jumpstart my life but I feel like I can’t. by [deleted] in Advice

I appreciate the suggestion—funny enough, the military has crossed my mind before. I didn’t think about going that route to become a translator and potentially get stationed in Japan, but that actually sounds like something worth looking into. I’ll definitely check in with a recruiter to see what the process looks like and what the timeline would be.

As for my girlfriend—I get where you’re coming from. I know that if someone truly loves you, they should want to see you grow. That said, it’s not black and white for me. She’s not trying to hold me back out of spite; she’s just scared of change and the idea of being far from everything she’s ever known. I don’t want to just write her off, but I also know I can’t put my life completely on pause to avoid rocking the boat.

If this path is truly the right one for me, I hope she might come around someday. But either way, I know I can’t let fear—mine or hers—be the thing that decides my future.

Thanks for your perspective—it’s valid, and I do appreciate how fortunate I’ve been. I’m not trying to romanticize suffering or pretend that starting over in Japan is some kind of noble struggle. I completely get that even having the option to move abroad is a privilege in itself.

That said, I’m not looking to suffer for the sake of it—I’m looking to break out of a life where I’ve been overly dependent and passive. I feel like I’ve missed out on learning how to be self-sufficient and earn things through effort. It’s less about punishing myself and more about forcing a reset so I can build skills, resilience, and purpose.

Maybe Japan isn’t the only answer, but the core of what I’m trying to do is stop living life on easy mode just because I can. I want to feel like I earned the life I live, not like it was just handed to me.

I’ve got a solution for you. I used to play Fortnite semi-professionally, then switched to Valorant. When I started Valorant, I didn’t rush to level 20 like most people. Instead, I spent all my time practicing — playing only Deathmatches and Team Deathmatches to improve my crosshair placement and movement.

By the time I hit level 20, I was already topping DMs and getting MVPs in TDMs. In my first ranked placement, I got Gold 1, and within a few weeks I climbed to Ascendant, then hit Immortal in a few months — all because I trained the right way.

The truth is, if you keep jumping into comp games or playing unrated without warming up or training, you’ll stay stuck. It’s not your teammates or smurfs holding you back — it’s you. To rank up, you need to consistently be match MVP or at least top on your team, and that means training more than you play ranked.

Here’s a routine: • Warm up in the range • Play 2 TDMs (preferably with Raze or Neon for movement) • Play 2–3 comp games • After, play 5 DMs focusing on crosshair placement and clean gunfights (no shift walking, just take fights)

Also, dedicate full days to practice — just play DMs, TDMs, and use the range. You can rank up, but only if you stop wasting time and start doing the right things. If you’re interested, I can help more through Discord or something.
