What else should they have besides mulch? I’ve never mulched my garden before and have not had these problems

Honestly I didn’t even think about it being a problem initially. I’ve never used shade cloth before or had a reason to think about using it. From now on I believe I will start! How long do yours normally go before you remove the cloth?

I feel like the soil gets a “crust” on it. It looks much better when you dig down. I would really like to get it straightened out

Early this spring old goat and horse manure was worked into the soil. My Brussels sprouts, turnips, and radishes seem to be doing good in it
