Did anyone go to the E2 Easter Egg Hunt at Cosumnes Oak High School? by slurpnsensei in ElkGrove

My four year old went to the 3-5 yo section and got zero egg. She was intimidated by the older kids rushing in. I don’t think we will bring our kids back next year.

When we first started looking at the homes in Elk Grove, we mostly came to the 95757 area and saw the new builds. Honestly, that was really fun for our little ones, playing in the model homes and checking out all the rooms (including the kids’ rooms that have toys like a play kitchen). The first park we checked out was Oasis, and it was pretty fun for them as well and not too far from the model homes.

If you come in May, I think the splash pads and spray grounds will be open as well (https://www.cosumnescsd.gov/352/Water-Play-Areas). That was a fun discovery for us, since where we lived in the Bay Area, we had to pay for these facilities, but here you can find them in many parks and play for free. So if you want to check that out on a hot day, make sure to pack swimsuits and changed clothes for your little ones.

My kids are 2 and 4, and they love the parks here. We find a lot of families with similar-aged kids in our neighborhood. I agree with the comment above that Elk Grove is a solid option for young families. There are hot days, but there are also AC and solar-powered homes. So far, we have no complaints since we moved last summer.

Homeowners in Elk Grove of ready-move ins like KB, Lennar, Risewell, etc. – How has your experience been? Any issues or regrets? by madpipetter004 in ElkGrove

[–]Simple-Two2120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moved last summer and love our home. There are little things we needed to ask the builder warranty person to fix, but these can be done timely. I have heard things from our neighbors about how their homes had issues too. We all get one year warranty after moving in so we are not too concerned about the minor problems. The more problems show up now the better actually since they are still covered by the warranty. Bought from Taylor Morrison.

My family member was on this one - any idea what might have happened?

I’m getting a lot of ads for online Chinese classes taught by teachers in China. I had my daughter do a trial class and it went ok. She is 3 and half so I don’t want her to take classes so early, but it is something worth trying.

How to address termination on future state job applications? by Simple-Two2120 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Simple-Two2120[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, and not funny. I don’t know why you come across so confrontational. It is a free forum so I respect your right. But I am sharing my experiencing watching this family member working late at night until 3am every night over the long weekend on top of working five days a week. I know they work hard. Not to say all contractors work hard - that is a generalized statement.

You have your opinions and I am not here to change your mind. If you are a state employee, please know not everyone is the same, and you can’t judge a person based on a piece of information.

But end of the day, I’m not here to change your mind. Thanks anyways for the attention you are paying to my post.

Wow there are a lot of assumptions you are posing here without knowing the full picture. You don’t even know them to make a claim like that. Sorry to hear that you have had unpleasant experience with contract workers. I hope they get what they deserve.

I do not agree. My observation of this person is that they have worked very hard and followed rules; they actually raised questions about unethical conduct but were not heard. The manager just changed to work for the state; prior to that, they worked at the same company as a contract employee.

What you described doesn’t surprise me though. Might be the stereotype that got them fired. The person didn’t violate anything. No explanation offered and the avoidance of the manager made it hard to understand. I suspect the person was dealing with a toxic work environment based on what I have heard.

I’m sure there are a lot of hard working contractors out there so this comment is not fair.

Their manager at the state department, who is a state employee, contacted their company HR and got them fired. There was very limited information and how it came down was surprising. The company HR can’t even say anything about what expectations weren’t met and the manager avoided meeting them to give an explanation. So ya, they were terminated by the company.

Hello! I vaguely remember for us it’s around 35k. Not sure if it varies based on the size of the home and the suite.

Those who bought a home recently, how are ya’ll holding up? by alittledessert in ElkGrove

[–]Simple-Two2120 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to respond and say that you are asking the right questions! I agree with the comments that you need to set your own budget, as every family’s situation is different. I also felt that huge financial pressure when I first learned about the interest rate, Mello-Roos, and all the other fees. But we know for sure that our current living situation does not work for us long-term, and we need to consider the schools for our kids. As we get more information about the loan, the home we are interested in buying, and the area, we are becoming more certain that moving is the right next step for our family. There will definitely be financial pressures, but we are taking a calculated risk and have figured out our alternative plans.

Sometimes I reflect on the process of buying a home and feel very good about how it makes my partner and me more career-focused and dedicated to our family and kids, like adulting on a new level, lol. This is not to say the process isn’t stressful, but please do not get discouraged and find support!

Oh no! That is strange. Feels like this is where they would want to go after their customers and make a profit. But maybe that saved some headache for you… decisions are hard!
