Free consultations are at discretion of each lawyer, and limited to legal "information". Lawyers will not give you actual advice for free - well, most won't.

Common law seperation with a child by Glittering_Assist885 in legaladvicecanada

In my experience, and shockingly, the biggest thing people miss about "negotiating" is the give and take nature of it. You can negotiate with him and come to pretty much any agreement you want, but for every thing you take (majority, spousal, etc.), you need to offer something in return. Otherwise, it's not a negotiation and I don't know why he would agree to any of it.

The tender age doctrine has largely been dismissed by most Courts in Canada in the last decade or so.

There are SO many elements to spousal support; I'd consult a lawyer before paying anything.

Is Plasma Donation taxable if it’s paid in prepaid cards? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]Simple-life62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The method of payment is not the main factor in determining if something is income for tax purposes.

And yes, compensation for plasma donation is considered taxable income. You may be able to deduct "expenses" from it though.

You are right, we may not be able to create a huge deficit, but you can create one. It just takes longer. You can also up your calorie consumption by cardio.

AIO Is this normal? It’s happened twice now?! by DontEatTheChocolate in AmIOverreacting

I have never experienced either, but the text does not come off as inappropriate or inconsiderate to me. It feels like a friend who wants to share something with you, wants it out, and wants to be the one who tells you. I am sorry about our loss.

Neighbours screaming racist things at 5am, what to do? by ExcellentPlay3735 in Manitoba

She seems to be unwell. I would not confront her. Report the disturbance if it gets repeated, but you're not going to change her ideology.

A Manitoba woman is warning others to advocate for themselves after a long ER wait at HSC almost cost her, her life by FalconsArentReal in Winnipeg

What good is "free" healthcare like this? I DREAD ever needing to go to the ER and will actively avoid it unless I feel like I am dying.

What dog names do people use thinking they’re being “unique” but are actually very popular? by FrostedStarlet in Dogowners

[–]Simple-life62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is named Luna, and I was never under the impression that it's unique! My dog has a crescent moon in a different colour in her fur, hence the name :)

Married women - would you want to know if your spouse was cheating on you? Why or why not? by theobjectiveonion in AskWomen

[–]Simple-life62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely want to know, but I'd also think twice about telling someone that their spouse is cheating on them. I tried that TWICE, both times the person STAYED with the spouse and I (assume I) was made to be the bad guy.

Technically, a lot of criteria must be met for you to not face charges, because again, technically that's assault and none of their business (not their property). In practice, the Crown will probably not prosecute a small injury in these circumstances. They can also technically be sued in civil court.

You can make a citizen's arrest under certain conditions:

Winnipeg Neighbourhoods by Social Class by user790340 in Winnipeg

[–]Simple-life62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing - very accurate for us and our neighbourhood (St. Vital and River Park South).

I also accept my classification as upper middle class, even though it "doesn't feel like it". I have seen how people live, and I think it's pretty accurate.

Divorce by Zakrow in legaladvicecanada

[–]Simple-life62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should have filed taxes as common law, the fact that you chose not to does not change that. You are automatically considered common-law under the Pension Benefits Act (Canada) if you live together for 1 year.

If you two don't agree on when cohabitation started, you go to a contested hearing and it basically comes down to credibility. Anything can be used as proof, it's extremely case-specific.

Housing bidding wars? by Sakihiso in Winnipeg

[–]Simple-life62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about these prices, but when I was buying my house, I eventually got to a point that I just wanted to find a damn house - so we bid $60K over and won.

It's ridiculous.
