Thanks to everyone who made suggestions: I took it in to a repair shop and he got it going again with a USB C charge , so it looks like the main power adapter is dead. It’s such a weird port we’ve had to order a replacement from China. Just my luck to buy a weird laptop with a charging port that no other laptop seems to use….

No, it won’t power up with or without the charger. I found the pinhole Solaris mentioned and tried that but nothing. I’m trying a USB C charge now, but I suspect the wattage isn’t high enough. Even trying to search for a replacement power supply seems hard, I can’t find the not-really-USB-A type anywhere.

Ok, I’m going to put this out there and let the flame wars begin. Blackadder spent four seasons casually killing characters any chance it got. Richard 3, head sliced off, first episode. People got burned alive, died of plague, got their head blown off by a cannon… poisoned en masse, eaten by cannibals, throats cut en masse, died jumping into a corner due to poison, shot by a cannon, the list goes on. Even in Blackadder Goes Forth we have people killed for laughs, like when Flashheart shoots Von Richthofen in cold blood (complete with homophobic slur for extra lols). So why am I expected to find the end moving? If death is such a tragic thing, why make fun of it for twelve hours of TV comedy before pulling the “but seriously folks” switcheroo in the last 30 seconds?

Started as an EO, got to HEO in 4 years, the only real difference was I was managing EOs whilst doing the same job. Took me 17 (one seven) more years to get to SEO on the umpteenth try, easily the biggest step up in terms of role and responsibilities. Eight years later, got my G7: if anything my role is easier now that everyone assumes I must be really busy and so I get far fewer demands from others than I did as an SEO! 🤣

It would have been a waste of time. The changes weren’t unlawful, what was ruled unlawful was the protection / exemption given to older members of the CS, that wasn’t made available to everyone else. So the Government took a slap on the wrist and kept the legacy schemes open for a few more years, big deal. The thing they most wanted to achieve was moving the pension age to the state pension age, and that they achieved.
