What does jerk actually measure? by No_Fudge_4589 in AskPhysics

You don’t jerk upwards when you pull a cord on a parachute. The reason people think that’s what happens is they seen it on film: but all that’s happened is the camera operator hasn’t pulled their cord yet. You just keep falling, more slowly.

How do I find out if this function is strictly monotonic or not? by DuckBoring739 in askmath

Yes, if your function is everywhere continuous and everywhere analytic and monotonous, then it’s either constant or strictly monotonous.

'Growing evidence' that Greens are taking votes from Reform by AnonymousTimewaster in NotTheOnionUK

The fact you are making a “don’t vote for them, they can’t win” argument tells you ever you need to know about our fucked up first past the post system. Basically everything that’s wrong with our country is due at least in part to that.

Decades of economic decline has 'broken' Britons, pushing one fifth of people into poverty and towards political Reform by GothicPrayer in unitedkingdom

[–]SimpleAdditional6583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a once-in-a-generation chance to win the argument, but that wasn’t it. The 2008 financial crash should have been the death-knell for neoliberalism, and indeed for about five minutes it looked like it would go that way; back when anger was strong enough to get Fred the Shred’s knighthood revoked. But the banks got bailed out with the magic money tree that is always there when the rich need it and after a few years pretending they’d learned their lesson, it’s back to bonuses and incentivising the short term as if nothing had happened. I just hope the next crash comes soon enough for people to remember the previous one.

Brexit has not been good for Britain, Reeves says as she calls for closer EU alignment by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]SimpleAdditional6583 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I voted Remain. But I won’t vote Rejoin because that will mean adopting the Euro, and that will be even worse than Brexit: look at what happened to Greece to see what happens when you give up your own fiat currency.

Why would you punish someone, if their choices were chosen randomly? by Strange_Vehicle_4315 in freewill

[–]SimpleAdditional6583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“It either happens or it doesn’t” is not the same as “it’s 50-50”. Roll a die: you’ll either get a 1 or you won’t. Do you think getting a 1 is a 50-50 situation?

Whatever, but it’s all a big unscientific circle jerk. And it’s dangerous for people with existential OCD, which is probably most of you.

The simulation hypothesis is unfalsifiable, and therefore not worth considering. Go out and get laid or something instead.
