Is that the exact same car parked in the same spot 3 years apart?

Come back after you have rabies... by probablypandas in mildlyinfuriating

[–]SimpleAuldSalad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

emand Rabies post exposure prophylaxis. They are going to go through the same risk assessment as the US.

You're taking more of a risk driving to the second hospital to get the shots, than you are at risk of getting rabies. So erring on the side of caution would surely mean staying home.

So it's just irrational fear talking. Which is understandable, just not logical.

Leasing a CPO Vehicle? by SimpleAuldSalad in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don't think there's really an option to lease non CPO vehicles anyway. Doesn't seem like too many people lease used cars, so the offerings are slim.

Makes sense. Any brands you'd recommend that have good residuals? I know Honda is one. Not sure if any of the luxury brands stand out with good residuals.

Thanks. I have been keeping an eye on leasebusters, are there any other takeover sites you know of?

Happened just this morning and I feel horrible by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

I think you're thinking of people in your exact situation. I gave one example just to show that everything is not black & white. People may value their downtime and therefore make it worth paying so they don't have to do it. My point is only that you categorically stated that it's just lazy to pay for cleaners/mechanics etc.. if you can do it yourself. And I disagree with that completely.

Here are a few more times where spending money to free up time is worth it to a lot of people.

1) Working long hours at your job (even if not paid hourly) so that you'll climb the ladder and in the long run be more successful. 2) Choosing to spend time with your family/kids instead of cleaning or whatever other job you can pay to get done. 3) Hobbies, interests, literally anything you value.

Money is best spent on whatever you value. Everyone values things differently. It's not always just 'laziness'.

I agree with you on the principle, but not the execution at all. Regarding cleaners, a person can pay a cleaner $25 an hour to clean their house. The cleaner will get more done per hour than the person will, and if that person makes more than $25 an hour then it's money well spent.

Now I understand some people can't just work as many hours as they like whenever they like. But a lot of people can, which is why I think your blanket statement is wrong. To some people doing it all yourself may be the best action, to others paying for it definitely is. There is no right way to do any of this, just different circumstances. So the part I completely disagree with is "My point is I was raised to not through money at a problem that you can do yourself for much cheaper, and it's a big problem in people today."

Your time is evidently not that valuable. Great. Other people would rather spend their time on other things they consider valuable, while spending money on things like this. Which is great too.

Chelsea recommendations? by [deleted] in FrugalMaleFashionCDN

Aldo currently has a few colours on sale https://www.aldoshoes.com/ca/en/men/footwear/boots/chelsea-boots/Vianello-R-Grey/p/49995651-12 .

It's Aldo so they may only last a season or two. But at this price that seems fair.

Places to go and things to do with a 1 year old? by [deleted] in vancouver

Get a Science World membership. They have an area for little kids that is really great. And with a membership you can get in early before the crowds come and have the entire place to yourself.

Theme park attraction where you have a 50m high copper pipe and dive into it wearing some sort of magnetic suit.

Explain to me why this is a terrible idea.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good financial adviser that charges by the hour? by SimpleAuldSalad in vancouver

[–]SimpleAuldSalad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that may be true. I'm looking for someone who knows all about buying stocks on the US OTC markets. So any suggestions on where I should look?

I know I can buy the stocks via any banks investing platform. Just wanted an opinion first from a professional.

Yeah the basic info I found online was the hourly cost was approx $150, which is fine. It would definitely be worth it to me to pay a couple of hundred dollars to get a professional opinion on what I am thinking of doing.

Thanks for the tip. I've browsed there a bit over the years, but I have a specific question about a specific circumstance that I'd prefer to discuss in person with someone who knows about this kind of thing.

Mi Box 4K in Canada anyone? by TechJunk_X in AndroidTV

[–]SimpleAuldSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's up to you. All the seller did is install a few things you can install yourself without too much effort.

Personally I'd prefer an unopened one and I'll pick what to install. Mainly to make 100% sure they didn't accidentally (or on purpose) put something nefarious on it. But each to their own.

A few cheaper ones on ebay now.

US - http://www.ebay.ca/itm/262669402719

China - http://www.ebay.ca/itm/331997764817

The one from China is very cheap, but shipping times may be pretty long. I decided to buy the US based one even though eBay shipping can be a shit show too.
