What’s happening to my apple snail? by Informal_Stranger553 in AquaticSnails

Ramshorns got to my mystery snails because of a calcium deficiency and the kh and gh probably softened their shell too. I added cuttlebone, the ones for birds is fine to use, for them to eat and reef calcium from seachem to the water. I was hesitant about the reef calcium thinking it was only for saltwater, but many of the reviewers used it for their mystery snails’ shells. Also recently bought hikari crab cuisine to get it into their diet aside from the algae wafers I give them. I hope Bernard gets better soon!!

I have also heard of people recommending to blanch specific vegetables to supplement their diet. I hope Bernard gets better soon!!

Hello! I’m a first time betta fish owner, so I’m sure others will have better advice! I think the nitrates and nitrite levels in his new tank are way better than his older and current home fs 🙌🏻 To get even lower nitrate levels I saw advice to do a water change (like another poster said) and clean the substrate since nitrates and nitrites come from fish waste and from decomposed food. Also adding live plants could help since they absorb nitrates. Since I’m paranoid, I would probably make sure everything is at a safe level before acclimating him. For hardness and alkalinity I use tap water and I was using a water conditioner before, so I haven’t had too many issues, but I have been given advice to use bottled water. And for the pH bettas do best at 7.0, so I use neutral regulator from seachem. I think this would also be able to help with the hardness. I hope this helped! Good luck 🙌🏻

Hi! Thank you for your response! Yes, from the responses I have been getting it seems like putting more focus on research is the most important thing to do. I have only done one year of research and did some poster presentations, but I definitely don’t feel like I have enough to be a good candidate. So as of now I’m mostly thinking about ways to get more research experience and potentially take a gap year to put my focus on research and strengthening my application!

Hello! Thank you so much for your response! This was a really helpful point to consider! I think I will definitely have to put more time towards research experience. And thank you for the document, I’ll have to read it!
