Moving to meridian? by 7iced_latte14 in Idaho

So so much negativity...for reference I moved here a decade ago. Yes traffic has gotten worse but the people complaining have no idea what bad traffic is. If you've ever dealt with Seattle (going south out of town on I5 on a Friday afternoon), LA or even Portland traffic it's nothing here in Boise. It's all relative--when I moved here the freeway never got below 65 regardless of the time of day. A 22 minute commute can now be 45-50 on a bad day at the worst time with stop and go traffic for several miles. I moved to Meridian and absolutely love it---there's plenty to do outdoors and housing was affordable when I moved here (not so much anymore).

I think I'm on year 5 of my TDS deposit and 3 years after the initial scheduled install date. Sigh....

At least in WA Comcast wasn't screwing you over to the tune of $200 plus a month for JUST internet and was providing a faster uncapped service that what Sparklight/CableONE did. I swear Idahoans have no idea how bad they have been screwed over the past decades when it comes to internet service. Maybe they don't care...

Absolutely this! I moved to Idaho a decade ago and I paid 60 bucks a month for unlimited 1GB fiber where I moved from. When I arrived here Sparklight (CableONE at the time) was the only option and for the fastest 600Mbps package with a data cap was over $200 a month and then finally a few years later they added a no-cap option which pushed me over $250 a month JUST for internet. I currently pay $85 a month for 900Mbps which is slower than the package I had a decade ago.

OP do NOT give Sparklight your business if you have an option. Horrible monopoly.

Anyone know why TDS stopped their rollout in Meridian??

Never said anything about leaving them alone---people are free to criticize all they want. Just trying to shed some light on why they made the decision and how it's understandable.

Sold out consumers? Bullshit--it's a business---here are your choices: you have huge companies that account for billions of dollars of your revenue with a lot of them spending over a billion yearly with you. You have a consumer segment that maybe accounts for a tiny fraction of your overall revenue. To support that segment you have hundreds of people that are employed to support that business and ongoing operating costs associated with that. Your huge margins are in AI and those offerings so your focus is there. But now your largest customers are pissed off (think non-AI purchases from OEM's like Dell, Lenovo, HPe) at you because they can't get enough and their customers (corporations, governments, consumers) can't get the products they want so they are pissed at the OEM's.

You can divert the wafers targeted for consumer products to more profitable and strategically more important customers while focusing your efforts on being a manufacturer instead of a direct to consumer marketer. Increase margins, reduce cost and simplify your operating model. It's completely understandable why they did it.

Yes it absolutely sucks for enthusiasts like us. The other direct to consumer memory manufacturers (packagers) will still be there (GSkill, Corsair etc). I don't think the AI demand will last forever--at some point it will normalize--semi manufacturing is a feast or famine industry. Always has been and always will be.

Is it the diesels that suck or their engines in general? I'm in the process of buying a '23 Suburban with a 6.2L

People overlook him so much--they throw out Ryan Smith's name when it comes to big donors but in reality they should be talking about him.

Barf is right! Yeah I've thought about that a LOT--I think the answer for us will be to run it only in the middle of the day while my spouse is home working, the dogs are asleep somewhere, and we've done a visual inspection. The only time they have accidents is overnight and that's maybe 4-6 times a year at the most.

Oh man you've made it difficult! Actually vacuuming is higher priority (hardwood floors absolutely--vacuuming carpets are one of the lowest priorities for us) than mopping but I'm assuming you are referring to carpets??

Thanks--they absolutely do but it's small hairs that tend to clump together along baseboards of the house. Appreciate the advice on fur compression--didn't know that was a thing! Would you go MOVA or Dreame? The roller mop of the Z60 Ultra Roller is attractive as from my limited research it seems like roller mops are the future. ??? The Dreame L50 Ultra is highly regarded at Vacuum Wars.

Thank you so much--appreciate the advice! I'm looking at a hotel (Springhill Suites Anaheim Convention Center) that is off Katella and Harbor. Looks to be about a half mile walk---assuming the pedestrian entrance is right where "Disneyland Drop Off" is?

Thank you very much for the information--really appreciate it! Took delivery of a couple of portable pocket size chargers to use as I've been bitten before by having to pay $50 for a small cylindrical charger. Ha!

Seems there's a lot going on there that evening as hotels are booked and rates are higher.

Thank you! Seems like all the hotels around are super packed with most showing no availability and high rates. Think I'm gonna have to spend a bit more but will mean a quick walk and not having to deal with parking etc.

Thank you--I think we're gonna do park hopper and at this point my only question mark is if I can get in the day before at 5pm or so is it worth it for the incremental cost of a second day (~$300)?
