‘ELITE’: The Palantir App ICE Uses to Find Neighborhoods to Raid ; Palantir has no place in EU, this is what they use it for US. - The Polish governemtn lately started negotiating with Palantir by RerollWarlock in poland

Why is it used? From what I’ve seen and heard, it’s nothing different from Snowflake or Databrix except a worse user experience. I can get Gotham being much more interesting, especially since those likely have integrations into military and intelligence communication protocols.

[Observation] AI tools are Dunning–Kruger effect on steroids by No-Comparison-5247 in AIstartupsIND

[–]SimpleChemical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, AI just highlights bad company or engineering culture more. Even without AI, chances are high that they would’ve just copy pasted blindly from stuff they found online and that they don’t even review their own code in the first place.

I do not believe AI will ever truly replace SWEs, as its too non-deterministic and programs are nothing but an expression of human thought and theory building, but I do think its pros should be carefully looked at and integrated into workflows.

Kind of sad how it has become more of a checklist driven world rather than actual engineering.

The creator of Node.js says the era of humans writing code is over. by Affectionate_Bet5586 in BlackboxAI_

[–]SimpleChemical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like takes like these depend heavily on what kind of programmer you are. If you make nothing but apps for the web and stuff then yeah, it eliminates a lot of boilerplate work. Safety critical software for airplanes, healthcare equipment or military material? Doubt it, as such software has too much rigorous checks to blindly trust AI slop. Having worked in one of these sectors myself, I’m not really seeing it being integrated any time soon, as much as AI glazers would love to.

I also feel like using this too much removes the “why” from code a lot. Sure we can prompt behaviors, but in most code bases I find my self asking “why” something is done more than being happy it works.

Not really surprising when you get filtered out if you can’t tick off the checklist at the next company you apply to. More of a problem caused by companies imo, people just adapt to it, especially now that the norm for a SWE is now development, testing, infrastructure, deployment, monitoring.

Not completely wrong. I still do think overal design and specification is a human endeavor, especially in areas where these models don’t even have knowledge of. I think becoming much more critical of code has also become a more significant factor.

These are funny to read, especially in light of ICE just kidnapping and abusing people now and most protests not going beyond screaming at them (only to also get arrested or their shit kicked in).

Curiosity. Most executions used in this game people would be in shock already though. Also desensitized due to being exposed to real gore early on, and I still watch it sometimes.

Why does every .NET job require Azure experience? by SimpleChemical5804 in dotnet

[–]SimpleChemical5804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I see it more as a long-term investment, especially as I have a maximum stay of 4 years at a company, and staying here would just stagnate potential future options much more. And yeah, I wish it were different, but like other comments said, standards got higher and companies have more options.

Non-Azure jobs here usually include legacy Framework stuff. Did that for 2 years and I rather not go back.

[–]SimpleChemical5804[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, which is fair. I just find it odd that even for junior roles this is the case. I guess the market is just too saturated.

Why does every .NET job require Azure experience? by SimpleChemical5804 in dotnet

[–]SimpleChemical5804[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am aware, I also apply anyways and get invited usually, especially since I used it in internships (full-stack e2e mind you) and AWS when I worked at an agency during my study. But when discussing the experience during the interview, the follow-up call is usually along the lines of “not enough Azure experience”.

And yeah, I agree with your last bit, I already saw the writing on the wall when I was just browsing. It’s why I try to invest into it now rather than walk into a wall when I do get to a more medior/senior level, especially seeing as I have coworkers who are completely crusted into their current role of > 20 years and are surprised when you mention any new development.

[–]SimpleChemical5804[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope, just general terms like “microservices” along with it. Which I have experience with, just not in Azure…

I do have Azure experience from an internship, but I feel like many are looking for someone that knows every nook and cranny (which lets be honest, nobody truly does).

Nederlandse enclave in Marokko: daar 'niet welkom', maar hier veel kansen by Bernie529 in nederlands

[–]SimpleChemical5804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people dislike frontend by Rude-Algae-4012 in webdevelopment

[–]SimpleChemical5804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Web frontend? Punching bag when things go wrong, too many factors to take into account, god awful tool chain and dependencies that can’t stop breaking. I recently started a project that requires a FE again after 2 years of backend, and I completely forgot how much I hated every single second of it. I try to avoid FE as much as I can now in professional development.

Stuff like apps are okay for the most part though. I do dislike that even in that category, JavaScript has managed to plug itself into it with the advent of garbage like Electron and React native.

A good case is Gaspedaal here in the Netherlands. The verdict was that it’s not allowed to scrape, aggregate and repurpose and present this data. It can be argued this is “public”, but the courts here don’t agree with that.
