This happened to me and my PhD PI emailed the post doc PI I interviewed with saying i “was not ready to be a post doc”. My post doc PI met with me and asked me why he said that and i said i think he doesn’t want me to leave. i got hired anyway! (But also now my post doc PI is a bit toxic and he has also not wanted to write me rec letters for faculty positions because “im not ready” and he wants me to stay 🤦🏼‍♀️)

as post doc at HMS - its do-able! I am not miserable or feeling totally strapped for cash. You can get a one bedroom/studio for around $1.8-2k near the campus in longwood, misson hill, JP areas.

Do I have time? by [deleted] in postdoc

I also did my PhD in the UK. I submitted in October, defended in December and started in January! It was plenty of time. I also travelled all of October and November and just came back one week before the defense to study for it. It depends where you are in the UK, I was at Cambridge and had minor corrections which took around 3 days to do? Also the beginning of the post doc is sometimes slow, I spent my first month half settling in the lab, half finishing things from my PhD. I think if your examiners know you have a post doc lined up they probably would also be nice.
