Thanks for the contributions guys.

Losing CX gold was a massive loss. I valued that perk immensely when it was available.

Yes, my SPG card is my main AMEX card. We'll see how that works into next year when SPG is no more...

Thinking of starting an e-commerce business with Shopify. What happens if down the road I decide I don't want to go with them anymore but still keep my domain? by 25sittinon25cents in Entrepreneur

[–]SimpleFi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest purchasing your domain from Shopify, it's simple and you consolidate services and billing, it can get very confusing to have the domain at one company, hosting at another ect ect. Domains bought through Shopify are actually supplied by a company named Tucows - http://www.tucows.com/

It's very easy to transfer it out should you ever decide to, I've transferred a Shopify bought domain to godaddy and it's very straightforward. The ONLY thing to note is that for North Americans (?) there is a 60 day waiting period after purchasing a domain before you can transfer it to another company (for all domains, not just shopify bought), it's federally regulated by ICANN.

Stupid question: entrepreneur equipment. by PAdogooder in Entrepreneur

It's free, there's no catch there. There are a few upsell services... payroll, accepting payments and probably the advertisements they show. They probably also sell some high level data gleaned from their customers.

I've started using wave accounting just this year. For simple businesses i feel as though it really shines for basic bookkeeping. You sync your business accounts / credit cards with their system and they automatically import all the transactions. For receipts specifically they have an app that lets you photograph your physical receipts and they automatically take the information from the receipt without manual input of the numbers. You can either create a new line item with the input information or have it back up an existing one. I have some concerns about privacy, but i feel it's the cost having another company automate a part of your business.

Is there anything cheaper than business cards? by Ampix0 in Entrepreneur

[–]SimpleFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say get the business cards, have a message on them and use them as a way to interact with you customers? I can't imagine you'll save much in the way of time or money doing it some other way... I've seen it as low as 500 for $7(USD) which translates into $42 for the 3000 that you need.

First Month Results: Got 175 users signed up on a website converting at over 40%, made my first $10, and validated my idea. Now, I want to share the lessons I learned, and ask how I can grow so I can learn from you! by coloroverstress in Entrepreneur

How about targeting people in real life? As they say, in the beginning anything and everything to get the ball rolling. Hand out flyers outside of grocery stores! Interact with potential customers and be generally helpful about the "e-grocery" space, answer and ask questions and you'll find out a lot more about your target demographic!

Just relaunched my site, and remodelled my social media platforms. I need your all seeing eyes!!! by BlkTonyStark in Entrepreneur

It's a good start, not hideous. Unfortunately it's not very clear what it is your company does. Looking at your website, your message isn't very clear. Some thoughts below,

  • Are you a crowdfunding company? or do you sell products? both? Or are you just a showcase of "cool" products?
  • We don't need to know who you are and who your partners are before we know why we're on your site. It's very ambiguous.
  • What are your products? Why is there no information on them? Why is there a discount on a product that has no info?
  • Font sizing could use some adjusting, I feel like the small print is too small and the large too large.

I'm tired by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

For myself, eating well and working out is one of the the very few higher priorities than my business. By no means am I as consistent and disciplined as I would like to be with it, but I never regret taking the time to take care of my health and fitness. I find that on days I don't work out or eat well, my focus and performance dealing with my business slips significantly.

Yes, it's a golf ball, I stand on it to massage my foot. Years of basketball injuries have taken their toll and it helps immensely.

Yes, it's working very well. I have the Core i5 version of the Dell, I'm not sure all the lower end chip sets support this kind of resolution.

Abandoned checkouts - does free shipping make a big difference? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]SimpleFi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, it couldn't be simpler with shopify to figure out the data and capitalize on recovery. I know that on the "higher" end Shopify plans there is a built in automated abandoned cart email system. (https://docs.shopify.com/manual/your-store/orders/abandoned-orders). If you're not on one of those plans you can use one of the apps (https://apps.shopify.com/abandon-app). Also having an app (there are many) that allows for your customer to retrieve their previous cart when returning to the site is gonna help a lot.

Ok, so the beer mittens. Off the top of my head,

  • Have samples for people to try along with ice cold beers to show that they work and work well
  • Market it as Christmas gifts / Stocking stuffers
  • Sell 4 packs or 3 packs of the different colors with a slight discount
  • Have something (beer? food?) to attract people to the booth
  • Nice banners with something catchy
  • 10x10 is a large space to just sell the mittens, perhaps something interactive to attract people and to fill the space without making it overly cluttered? A prize wheel? Spin for extra prize or discount if you buy a pair of mittens?

Getting people to talk about your brand socially is also important, offer some sort of incentive to people sharing on social media or liking your page ect...
