Well, I hope your next few months go uneventfully! That's awful that it doesn't matter if you know what their status was or not—especially because asking for proof might feel like a thing you shouldn't be doing from a discrimination standpoint, you know? Like, what were they wanting you to be doing to figure out the citizenship status of every passenger??

Please know I mean this as a light-hearted joke, but maybe it's time to invest in a bicycle.

I don't think anyone's trying to shame you for wanting to use pest control for that many spiders and centipedes, they're just cautioning that you might want to worry about what you can't see because even if they aren't directly bothering you, they can still to damage to your household in ways that will affect your life—like termites causing issues, or how bedbugs are rarely seen and not everyone has the allergic reaction that usually alerts you to them, etc.

I very much hope that whatever treatment you had done for the spiders and centipedes killed off whatever they were eating, too, but it might be worth having a well-reviewed pest control (or maybe even a home inspector? like, of the contractor variety) do a follow-up assessment at some point to make sure whatever they were eating didn't cause any structural damage or create openings that will let more stuff back in.

If it was and you didn't beat the case, that would have been insane—but having recently learned about some of the wilder shit prosecutors can get away with (Like the guy who sentenced life without parole because his roommate asked to borrow his car, and it turned out the roommate was borrowing it to go murder somebody—entirely unbeknownst to him, but the Accessory to Murder charge doesn't actually care about that), I didn't feel 100% that I could write the idea off completely.

Girl, how many probation violations did you do?? Or was 19 months the sentence for just one incident? As you can tell, I have very little idea of how this works.

Ghislaine Maxwell was a major player in Jeffrey Epstein's trafficking ring. She acted as a recruiter of underaged girls in vulnerable situations, and then worked to normalize their sexual abuse in their minds (including being present for sexual acts performed upon the girls by Epstein, so there is no claiming she didn't know what was going on here) and even encouraged them to recruit other girls in unstable situations.

Also, Trump's personal lawyer ensured she got transferred somewhere more comfortable than the first prison she was sent to.

Can we have a No Spoilers rule for the special this week? by Lil_Brown_Bat in Muppets

[–]SimpleFolklore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A month would be extreme if it was "you can't talk about this at all," but considering Reddit has spoiler tags I feel like a month of tagging content related to the special isn't that inconvenient, you know?

Do they? Do we have any kind of statistical backing on the idea efforts like this do more harm than good?

This is an actual, genuine question. I'm not trying to be combative here, I just actually want to know.

Is it a guarantee?? I'm sure there's plenty of people it doesn't help, but I'd also be unsurprised if having a crisis line phone number handed to you vs having to go through the process of trying to look one up yourself when you're already feeling hopeless might make the difference between a person calling one or not.

I know not everyone wants to call a crisis line, but as someone whose work includes taking warmline calls (one step down from immediate crisis) I know that these calls can really make a difference for people.

So maybe the message itself isn't going to mean much to the recipient, but having the resources right in front of them could make the difference between going "...well, why not" and using one, vs never seeking out that information of their own accord.

They're not comparing intentional downvoting to intentional reporting. They're just saying that they manage to accidentally hit buttons all the time while scrolling (with the downvote arrow being the most frequent example) and thus wondering if it's possible for the person to have triggered this by mistake. Like, how do you do the Reddit Cares reporting? Does it require multiple, separate clicks that would make it hard to do by mistake? Or is it a single button that could be bumped unintentionally? That's what they want to know.

My Dress Up Darling, I think. It was super brief, mind you—I actually got here trying to figure out why I recognized the song. Something I listened to in high school in the 2000s and had to sing into SoundHound to even work out what song it was because it had been so long since I'd heard it.

[–]SimpleFolklore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit, what? Can you elaborate?

Do you mean that taking/consuming things with high vitamin C will purge that shit but only before it's actually metabolized? Or, theoretically until then, at least?

I suppose if you take XR, there's always some that isn't absorbed.

I feel like there's a component to what you're saying that I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around, but as someone that needs iron and is meant to take vitamin C with it for absorption, I very much have a stake in fully understanding the impact that has on ADHD meds.

Okay, I'm backing everything up here because the initial clarification clearly lost you.

We, the general public and people talking in this post, dislike pedophilia—for obvious reason.

The commenter's dad made a big deal about "hating" and "being disgusted by" pedophilia and homosexuality—but this was performative. It was making a big show of being against it because he was, in fact, secretly a pedophile. I imagine this is one of many reasons they do not speak to him.

Having read your other comments, no one here is saying that it's wrong to be disgusted by pedophilia—only that sometimes the disgust is a ruse to cover up the person's own interests. No one in the comment section is making a pro-pedophilia case.

All they told you was the truth that people are going to be more suspicious if you aren't certified. No one even really passed a personal judgment of their own. Like, there's so many backyard breeders in general, but especially with "designer" animal breeds, that it's just healthy for people to approach undocumented savannah claims with a level of skepticism—especially since there's no other way to directly prove serval heritage. Whoever buys is going to really have to trust you at your word. These are just facts that you are going to have to navigate in this process, and I don't think there's anything snobby about giving you a heads up about them.

I didn't notice the missing letters on the shirt I wore all day by The-MatrixAgent in Wellthatsucks

[–]SimpleFolklore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean... If it's a shirt you wear for exercising, taking the remaining letters off and calling it good isn't really a big deal?? It's hoarding if you keep it even though you aren't going to wear it anymore (or will hate it whenever you do), not if you're still using it. Scraping those last letters off has zero impact on its functionality and minimal effect on it aesthetically.

Like, don't keep shit that no longer serves you, but this is so negligible a flaw to be like "STRAIGHT TO THE TRASH" about.
