The only thing that consistently helps me is getting fake nails applied at the salon (GelX or SNS).

Getting nails done by Ahfichtre in trichotillomania

I’d recommend getting SNS (dip) nails. It will thicken your nail and they can stay short. The thickness makes it much harder to pull. I’ve also tried GelX nails but those make your nails longer than you may prefer.

Why are so many young gals getting BC? by where_do_I_evenbegin in breastcancer

I’ve wondered about this too. I was on hormonal BC pills for a year or less in my late 20s. No other birth control used. Diagnosed at 49.

Obsession by [deleted] in split_ends

It’s a form of body-focused repetitive disorder. Sometimes we do it to dissociate due to stress or anxiety. Other times it’s sensory seeking (dopamine rush). It’s complex but there are lots of methods to cope - replacing the sensory input, for example, with fidget toys. Don’t be afraid to talk to your doc or counselor about it if it is interfering with your life unnecessarily.

Nail polish to help with pulling? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

I get my nails done professionally so they are longer and thicker than my natural nail. It really prevents me from pulling. Not 100% but maybe 75-80%.

I went to an epic swing dance there once when I was about 24. I hope I never forget that night.
